Why are you not able to transfer it to your external hard drive with it being 6.12GB?

If it is FAT32 it can not handle anything more than 4GB.

How did you get the MPEG-2 file? Did you encode it from another source?

it doesn't matter if it's a 300Gb hard drive, if it's formatted as a FAT32 file system, it will not accept a file that is larger than 4Gb. It's a limitation in that filesystem.

If you want files that are bigger than 4Gb, you need to format the drive with an NTFS file system, it has no limit on file size.

As for your second question, reencode the file with a lower bit rate.

All you have to do is what housepig said "reencode the file with a lower bit rate."

  11. Corry20 - you really need to provide more info when you post these things. It also helps if you fill out your profile so people know what kind of system your running. Background info about: where you go the file, what you want to do with the file, and your final goal with the file, etc. is always helpful.

So you captured the file from a VHS tape (appearantly directly to MPEG) on a system that's formated for NTSC. But you have an ext HD that you want to transfer it to.

Unless you're running an OS from that ext HD, just reformat it for NTFS (you can try to upgrade to NTFS but several people have problems with that). Based on the (little bit of) info you posted that should work without having to re-encode/capture your MPEG file Good luck...
