Im using a geforce ti4200 128mb for capture on winxp pro using virtualdub 1.4.13 and huffyuv v2.11 with frame rate at 29.97 at 640x480 with 44khz stereo audio on a 60gb maxtor hdd ata133 defragged with nothing else running in the background and i get 1 frame drop every 3 minutes approx so i know that i will have roughly 30 frames dropped in a 90 minute capture.Any clues what can cause this,i have an xp2600 with 512 ddr ram.

Offhand, I would say a pretty good system. You drop one frame every 5400 frames. Which makes your drop rate approximately .0001%. Have you looked at the quality of your capture? The only rate I have seen better are hardware encoders.

all captures of any source lose 1 frame every 3 minutes, the quality is close to the source vhs which is good being there`s only 240 lines of res,i was just curious whats dropping the frames like clockwork.A tbc might help but the signal is very good to begin with.

I'm gonna disagree with the previous posts in the hope that it doesn't offend.
I've a G4 Ti 4600 ViVo, i capture using VirtualDub-1_4_9 capture resolution is set at 352x288, 25 fps, Audio at CD Quality 172, 41,000 and i use PicVideo codec.
I drop about 1 frame every hour, so if your dropping frames every 3 mins then there's something wrong somewhere and i think that it might be the Huffy codec your using.
I seem to remember when i first started capturing i used Huffy as well and i would drop frames something like you are. But since i switch to PicVideo well i've already answered that.
Now i'm not saying that it will cure your problem but it's worth a try.I Have Always Been Here

Are you sure it's not just the video trying to sync
to the audio ? That does happen. I just can't remember
how it reports it.
The way to check it is to do a capture without audio.. -
Is your capture machine connected to the net via broadband? I found that at times, the NIC will try and interface with the cable modem and "steal" some resources from your capture program, which can cause dropped frames. I suggest either doing a NIC disable when capturing or unplugging the Cat5 cable.

FOO,good call,i tried with no audio and there were no drop outs so i went into capture/timing and unchecked `adjust video clock dynamically to match audio clockabd that did the trick, thanks for the tip and the other tips.Always a great place to come to when you need an answer.

That's good IF the A/V sync is OK
in ther words you may have screwed your sync -
the sync is good,i checked lock audio to video and it seems to stay on track, ive had sync probs before so i know the aggravation.
