  1. hi...

ive just started making my own vcd's from avi div-x files i get off the internet etc...i used a link from this website to help me get started which has been very useful, and i successfully burnt off my first vcd the other day..no probs...the pic is good, and the audio is in sync with the picture aswell...it plays back very well on my dvd plyer....

however when i played the disc i noticed the audio (especially the music on the film) was quite distorted, even though the original avi file on my pc is not.....i used virtual dub,TMPGenc and then nero 5.1 finally to burn it off as vcd...i followed the steps exactly that the steps said.....can anyone tell me why i might be getting distorted audio and if there is a way to correct it

the link on this site to the help page i used is
    https://www.videohelp.com/divxtovcd.htm

ps one thing i did do that was different to the step by step guide was when i changed the sampling rate of the audio to 44.1khz i also changed the bitrate depth to 16bit....should i have kept it at 8 bit....can that make a difference?

    cheers every1

    Yes !

I've tried chaging audio to 44100, and it went really crappy

If anything, I change all my audio to 48000

8-bit and 16-bit, just gives the audio more space to play with

I use 128k/bit, 48000, 8-bit stereo for DVD's, MP2 output, as PCM takes up far, far to much space on a DVD

For 2 movie DVD's, I use 224k/bit, 16-bit, 48000, MP2 again, due the the huge space PCM audio takes up

You can use 224k/bit audio, but if you're really tight on space, say if you're doing multi-episode DVD's, then that could make the difference between squeezing that last episode on a DVD or not

  3. Do Not use TMPGenc default sample rate converter....it is horrible as you experienced. Download and install SSRC (Shibatch Sample Rate Converter) You can then set that up as an external plug-in in TMPGenc so it uses that instead...and it makes a world of difference. You can find the option to setup external plug-ins in TMPGEnc under Environmental Options.

If you're using a recent version of TMPGEnc, simply set the Sample Rate Conversion to "High Quality" in the environment settings. This eliminates the need for external programs.
