  2. did you try different media? i had a whole spindle doing that same exact thing on my sony dw-u10a recently...basically erroring after 92-95%. The movie was great up till the ending when i viewed it. it did the same thing in nero and recordnow max. So i tried the disks in a diff drive and they failed again, i tried 3 other kinds of media and they all worked, so i took that spindle back, store exchanged them for a new spindle and i haven't had a problem since!

I used the same disc and burnt it with RecordNow DX and Copy2DVD no problem was encountered in those softwares. So definitely Nero is the culprit.

I would not advise using Princo disks with your Sony. I used them and had lots of errors with them, particularly "queing failed errors".
I would recomend using Ritek disks. I've burnt quite a few of them now with very little problems.

I am almost sure that it was Nero problem coz the same machine same disc work under RecordNow and CopyToDVD.

  8. i had the same problem with my dru500

i tried in 3 diferent pcs with nero (5.x.x.x and v6.0.0.0 / 6.0.0.15 / 6.0.0.19) and easy cd creator 6.x and i got that error at the end of the record process

i tried record now 1:1 and it work but really... this is not nero/ecdc problem, ive worked about a year and now i cant record nothing, i erased 2 pcs and install everything from the beginning (XP PRO - SP1 - NERO/ECDC)

conclusion: today im sending the sony for rma and by the plextor 708a

p.s.: i already tried to change the firmware... 1.0d, 2.0f and 2.0g and had the same result

  9. All I can say, being the noob that I am, is that Nero caused me more grief than any other possible culprit. I am running the 500ULX through Firewire and one day I started having problems like you described.... found that reinstalling Nero resolved the problem - for a day or so, and it was back to coaster city....
Now using other sw - CopytoDVD and a few other depending on my needs... Other than that the Sony works fine for me and does just what I need it to...

Princo (printable top surface) -r work badly for me on by DRUW10A if burnt at max speed x4. At single speed they burn fine. Memored -r work fine at 4 speed, as do Panasonic.

Try recording at a lower speed. Also make sure you have not got any fingerprints on the write surface. You normally only put them near the edge as you handle the disc, but that is the part you are having trouble burning to.

    handyguy,

Sony web site says the ASPI fix is not for XP. I have XP SP1.
    -------------
For Windows 95, 98, and 98SE users who have received an ASPI error. The following download will repair the ASPI layer on your system if it has become corrupt.
    -------------

I tried other unknow DVD+RW today and it worked fine. Only the
    Memorex DVD+RW is giving problems.
