  1. Quick question,
I was wondering if anyone knew the resolution of Video8 analog film (PAL). I've got a Sharp Video8 Viewcam... There's a lot of discussion about Hi8 but not much about Video8. Is the res superior to VHS?
    Thanks

Res is essentially same as VHS, but arguably less res than VHS in consumer grade cameras. Hi 8 would be roughly double regular 8 mm.

I capture from 8 mm all the time. 352x576, resize and filter to 352x288 with very nice results.

  3. Wrong, here is the correct resolutions
    8mm - 250 lines resolution
    Hi8mm - 400 Lines Resolution
these are the max resolutions 8mm can go down to 240 and some non sony Hi8mm cams were 370-380 resoultions.
Have owned 8mm cams and home decks since 1987. Hi8mm cams since 1997.

Are you talking about pal or ntsc? Your figures are close for NTSC, but not PAL, which the dude was asking about. Don't even think of saying that 8 mm is BETTER than vhs.

  5. Thxkid, I just love the WRONG statements! That is the perfect way to alienate yourself from others...
Actually, 8mm has the same resolution as VHS, about 220-250 lines of horizontal resolution, and Hi-8 has the double, over 400 lines.
