I'm a huge Vonnegut fan. Read Cat's Cradle...you'll understand what it is. It's a very quick read(each chapter is about two pages) and in the end very entertaining.

BTW tgpo: nice imagination...you completely changed ice-nine

OK, OK, You've all succeeding in making me feel really stupid now. :c( I've read Cat's Cradle (my first Vonnegut) and thought I'd read every book he'd written since then. And still, Ice-9 never struck a chord. :c*

It was a long time ago. But it sounds like something I should have remembered. All I do remember is I loved every word (and doodle) while I read them. Guess I'll have to re-buy them all again. :c)

    Mobile Phone
Kas187 - I've been waiting for someone to come up with that! :c)

Dont beat yourself up about it. I dont remember every single detail about it and still consider myself a huge vonnegut fan. I do recommend you re-buy them and when you're done, sell them to me for a discount

I read a lot of them my senior year for my advanced comp class and fell in love with his writing style. I've been wanting to buy some(to re-read) but dont have the money right now

Will do. :c) That is, when I can afford to re-purchase them! :cD Spent too much on PC stuff the last few years.

I'm ashamed to say it's been that long since I've read anything- unless it's online and then it's purely to learn, not for pleasure.

It's a shame, because I had a good collection that I left behind in N.J. -Vonnegut and classics and other favorites. :c(

But thanks for the kind words. :c) The thing that I hate most in the world is coming across as stupid*, and I walked right into it this time. :c*

    Cheers,

    Gees

    * I'm really not. But I'll admit to over-tired and under-fed. :cD

Since I couldn't bring my wife, one video would be porn. Oh hell, both would be porn.

Although it's somewhat contradictory to me bringing porn, I would bring my Bible as one book and a journal for the other.

I would burn two cds of songs that I can listen to over and over.

The personal objects kills me. I would want to bring my guitar or ukulele, but I would need crap like a machete and sharpening stone to keep me busy. I guess I would settle for a chainsaw and my ukulele.

Gameboy Advance SP, with Advance Wars II, and something else. I haven't decided yet.

that almost sounds like a plot of a movie .... stuck on a island with a porn tape (in the movie it would be replaced by a porn industry employe w/ loss of memory) and a Gameboy w/ adavance wars II and a chainsaw ..

without a lot of work I could whip up a B movie script out of that ..

I wondered how long it would take for that answer as well. :c*

    Your choice.

What would you need to make your own ukulele during your year?
    :c)

To make an ukulele from trees, I would need a chainsaw, tablesaw, jointer, glue, and something to sand with (preferably not rocks). If I couldn't have a sander, I could get away with some chisels or carving tools. It would be great if I could also have a bandsaw/resaw and a surface sander, but I wouldn't "need" them. The one thing that I couldn't make is the fretwire, but I could get around it, if I had a whole year to myself.

OK, if you had obsideon or flint you could make the chisels and scrapers needed for smoothing the wood. But here is the question.... Could you make the frets from one of the mentioned bits of rock? Or maybe make the tools and frets from some kind of shell covered creature (snails, clams, etc.)? And what about the strings?
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  14. Yeah, the frets could be clamshell. But for the strings, I'm afraid they would have to be from some kind of animal. I don't know of any kind of vine that could be used.
You would probably have to take hides, cut the strings, maybe even weave them and then cure them somehow.
    Not a pleasant thought.
Maybe it would be better to make some kind of woodwind instrument, like a recorder from bamboo.
A single reed instrument would be a little harder, should also be fairly easy to make.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Vonnegut rules. Even his books by "Kilgore Trout" such a Venus on a Half-shell.
Just what is this reality thing anyway?
