  1. Anyone heard of this brand before? How does it compare to the Liteon and other Divx player?

Never heard of it. Found a website for the mfgr - www.rjtech.net - but it's a very poorly laid out site with lots of broken/dead links. I couldn't even find this particular player on the site! Don't know if I'd trust them, especially when there's not any good representation in this country for them. Their US HQ is in City of Industry,CA - near me. Sometime when I get a chance I'll drive by and see if it's a real address. There are a lot of Chinese/Taiwanese mfgrs in that area, in fact the whole area is a mixed blend of Japanese/Korean/Chinese neighborhoods and shops. I used to deal with a Korean mfgrs rep in that area a few years ago, he even gave me some of their products free, just to get some input on what I though of them. Later he went out of business and just disappeared. So I'd be wary - if the price were less for this product, maybe I'd take a chance, but you can buy a LiteOn for about the same price, and at least it has some support.
    Caveat Emptor.

Here's a comment about one of their products (not this one) from one forum:

    >>I also own one, bought in on Ebay. However, it broke (won't even load or unload) about 6 weeks after I received it.

RJ Tech doesn't have a website, can't find them by phone using their address on the manual, manual is in broken english, etc.

Looks like a cheap operation with no support, and suspect quality you'll regret, as I do. Please forward this to all interested parties to prevent suppliers from acting this way! <<

I have the kiss DP-500 and it works great. It plays EVERYTHING and has a great webradio feature. The unit has a LAN plug and can stream movies or music from the web. Very cool!

  4. Price drop to $149. Should I sell my Liteon player and get this one? Liteon is a great player but Divx 3 playback is not that good and it is missing the fast forward function. Do you think Liteon will come out a firmware upgrade to improve it?

Well, it seems LiteOn is committed to firmware upgrades, they've had several already. So who knows? Presumably, they are working on improving it all the time. Hang in there. BTW: I thought they added a quasi- FF feature with the last update. Someone mentioned that it will now FF in 1 min. increments. Not great, but better than not at all.

  6. I rather have liteon than noname. Liteon appear to be a reasonable size company with a reputation to lose...
Also is that player actually certified by divx..?

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

  7. My friend just bought one. Here is a mini review on RJ4000 and the comparison with my Liteon Player.

    Divx Playback
Like the Liteon player, RJ4000 can play all version of the Divx(3/4/5/Xvid). The player does handle Divx 3 much better than the Liteon player. I have been having problem with the Ice Age disc(Divx 3) on my Liteon player. Some of the scenes will skip and freeze. RJ4000 has no problem playing the same disc. The player also maintain the original aspect ratio of the film while the film will appear to zoomed in on the Liteon player. The fast forward and slow motion function(on Divx) works great on this player. I am really jealous when I saw that. Looks like ESS did a pretty good job on the Divx. BTW we did open the player up and found the ESS vibratto chip inside.

    DVD Playback
The picture and sound quality appear to be pretty good. We tried a Region 2 16:9 Pal disc on RJ4000. The picture maintain original aspect ratio too. I am surprised to see that. I thought ESS could never fix that problem.

    Pro:
    Smooth playback on all Divx
Maintain original aspect ratio on Divx
Fast Forward and Slow Motion on Divx
    Karaoke(if u need it)

    Cons:
    Mediocre construction
Small remote with no standby button
    No zoom on Divx
    No subtitle support yet
(According to the seller the manufacture will
release firmware upgrade for subtitle within a month)

  9. I wish more companies are making Divx players in the US but we don't have too many choice. I want a Divx player that really works on Divx. I would trade my Liteon player for my friend's RJ4000 for these reasons.

    1. Better Divx picture quality
    2. Fast forward on Divx up to 16X
    3. Play all Divx without skipping and freezing

  10. Does RJ4000 play karaoke (CD-G/DVD-G) discs?
This RJTech player seems to play everything.

Zoom on Divx works with new firmware.
Can't play "Columbia TriStar Home Video DVD" because RJ4000 is
set to region free (RCE program prevents to play on region free
player. You will see a message "This disc is intended for play on
non-modified Region 1 players only. There is nothing wrong with
the disc. To assure playback you should purchase or rent a disc
designed specifically for your region.") According to tech support,
you can not set to specific region code without rewriting firmware.

I assume you have Liteon 2001. How can you trade the-only-available in the US player upconverting 480p to 1080i? It has been discontinued and the price on ebay is going through the roof because there is no other such player in the US. Think twice before trading this treasure.

Huh? The Bravo D1 does scaling up to 1080i plus outputs via a DVI connector and plays divx. The link I posted is to the Bravo player.

Considering everything I have read on everyone's above opinions, I have yet to see anyone compare the Gateway Connected DVD.
    Anybody have one of those?
    Any thoughts on it??

actually, if you go to divx.com and go to their forum players section, divx reps say that the only player they currently certify is KISS. That other players put a sticker "DIVX" certified is witout DIVX own consent
