Audio decompression format??

I tried to extract Audio from a file that I downloaded with VirtualDub, but it said that:
ACM FAILED TO DETECT AUDIO DECOMPRESSION FORMAT

How do I know what Audio format is the file using?? and how do I solve this problem

Use gspot or avicodec

if it is ac3 you can use goldwave to convert to wav.

Thanks, It turned out to be AC3 sound. Wasn't able to use GOLDWAVE but managed to extract the audio using a combination of VirtualDub and Headac3
