Hello! I'm writing an image analysis paper where I have to compare two ads from a magazine. I picked two video game ads(one splinter cell and one for the getaway) and my rough thesis is "The gaming companies are trying to promote violence though advertising because video games create a safe channel to expel agression"(I said it was rough). In the paper, I'm going to incorporate someting along the lines of realism in games and the necessity of realistic graphics. So my question to you is, How important are graphics to you gaming experience?

Please let me know if you mind being quoted in my paper. Thanks for taking the time to read (and reply) this.

I started but by the time i finished and was about to push send, i reread what i had, and it didnt make a lick of sense

    graphics are good, but bad.

Good cause the game is really realistic.
Bad because it can lead our simple minds to get confused as to what is reality vs a game and soon we will all be shooting everyone! saying YES A FRAG! or IM ON FIRE! DOUBLE KILL!!! YES

    I'll be anyone

...realism in games and the necessity of realistic graphics..
Not to take you out of context but there is no realism in video games. If there was where would be the fantasy?. Want realism : step out the front door ... keep walking...........enjoy.

Personally graphics are not my major concern, but then again I don't play first person shooters (these are the ones that seem to drive the market).

My tastes are more suited to "real time" management/strategy games like : Starcraft (and the original - Command and Conquer) and well as Diablo. The graphics in these games are poor (for todays standards) but the game never plays the same way twice.

Advertising appeals to the feeble mind. I try to look throught the bullshit marketing hype to the product.
Is it cool : YES - o yes
Do I want it : o yeah man
Do I need it : err NO - no sale.

Best of luck with the paper.

I'll say a qualified yes - my game interests in any modern game go toward first-person shooters or Tekken-style combat games.

and I hated Mortal Kombat and loved Tekken mostly due to the graphics and the smoothness (or not) of the character motion.

but it's all subjective - I like Unreal Tournament and UT2003, but I don't care for Quake at all - something about the look and feel don't appeal.

so I'd say it's important as a first step, but the next step up is going to be an aesthetic one - which style do you like more?

sorry, going off the thesis, methinks....

I loved Mortal Kombat, but hated Tekken. Tekken is too complicated, I loved how a noob could pick up a controller in Mortal Kombat, figure out a special move that no one else knew and woop up on the "expert". I feel like it keeps the game interesting. I played Tekken at a friends house the other day and I can't even move because he's doing 3000 hit combos on me under 3 fighting styles. At least I can win at Mortal Kombat.

That's exactly my point. There is no realism in games but some players require the graphics to be "realistic" before they go out and purchase the product. Not a lot of people in this day and age will pull out their original nes and play for hours on end(well, maybe a few will).

  7. ahhh yes Mortal Kombat. My fav video game of old.

Had the original for SNES but my buddy had the "BLOOD" version for Sega Genesis.

Still remember that blood code you had to enter too........ABACABB.

I rememered it from a magazine in a store and we rushed home to use it.....hahah amazing that I can remember that from 6th grade but I can't remember anything useful like my college math courses.

Oh and you want the best finishing move of all time too huh.........Sub Zeros Head pull with the spinal cord still in tact.............Forward, Forward Forward, Forward, High Punch. :P :P :P

    Hatz

ps......Killer Instincts sucked but my best bud loved it
    Loves the funeral of hearts.....
