  1. I am trying to convert some VHS vidoes to DVD using my JVC GR-DVX707 camcorder and im having a few problems. Here is what im doing.
    1. Connecting the camcorder to Video player using RCA cables connecting to the AV connector on the camera
    2. Set the AV input to 'on'
    3. As the video player is Short Play, I set the same on the camera
    4. Load the VHS into the video player and press play.
    5. I set the Recording button to start, but i only get a black screen on my LCD display.

Now should I expect to see the VHS showing on my video on the cameras LCD at this stage? Or should I also be connecting to my PC via a firewire connection and use image capture software to view the VHS in real time? I have done plenty of digital editing before using the camera, but this is my first go at analog to digital.
Any ideas would be greatly suggested.

Hmm i have the same camera. There is a funtion in the menu to set the avi contion to on or off which means take video in or take video out. Try that. As far as i know you cant do a bypass with this camera directly. You will have to record the clip on the dv tape an d capture it again with dv hooked up to your pc. That being said i personally have not tried the direct connection, but try it and if it works let me know, i certainly wood appreaciate it

  3. Thanks for your reply Mrsash. I actually have the camera set to AV 'on' but as far as I can see, im not receiving any AV. The manual states that when im connected to the video player through the RCA cables, that when i press the Recording Start/Stop button to engage the Record-pause mode, that there should be a "AV.IN" appear on the cameras LCD. Im not seeing this at all. Can anybody else think of a suggestion? Thanks for your help

The thing is i have not used my cam for a while and forget which command it was av on or off. So what i am saying is do the opposite command and check if that works. My cam is not charged and its too late at night to check right now . If it does not work let me know and i will answer tomorrow.

  5. I have tried with the AV both on and off, but still with no success. Im sure its something simple that ive missed, but its got me stumped. Have you ever recorded from VCR to the camcorder in the past with success?

  7. Well I believe i have it connected correctly. Im using RCA cables from the video and connecting to the AV on the side of the camera. I have the big round dial at the back set to 'play', and AV set to on in the menu. I just get a black screen after doing this. In the past when you have been able to record to your cam, are you able to see what is been shown on the VCR also on the cameras LCD? I appreciate your suggestions.

i have been trying to sort out this problem but i cant even see where the av inpit is. when i go through the sequence i just get dv/in. i cant see any function that gives the option for av in. it does say on the websites analogue in but i cant get it to come on at all. where is the function process for av input? i cant see it in the manual???? suggestions????

when i plug any analogue device into my gr-dv700ek i get it come up automatically. im not sure if the dvx707 has analogue passthrough. i dont think it des, correct me if im wrong.

i have had a black screen on another camera before when the input wasnt quite right. you could always try another device or other leads to try get the camcorder working. i use remote cameras for action footage and some just dont seem to work and sometimes it just doesnt like a particular lead or lead configuration.

tell me how your supposed to set the input to av in and i will mess around with it and get back to you on it. good luck.
