It will also provide a spot to enter your username and password for internet access. This is the password for your ISP, not for the router or your computer.
The only way I can get to the setup screen for the router with the router connected is to "WORK OFFLINE". Does that sound right, I cannot get to the setup screen without having the router connected. Right now I dont have it connected, so I have to switch the wires around.

  2. You will eventually have to swap the wires. So go ahead. If you are leary about unhooking the modem right now, just hook the other computer up to the router and configure it that way. Of course, you will not be able to get on the internet until you switch the wires.

    Rick,
You have a Linksys NR041 router, the same as I do. (From where I am sitting, the Network on front looked like Netgear, last night.)

Yes, the modem cable to the internet port of the router, the main computer to 1 or one of the others, next comp to 2 or one of the others.. Make sure the "Uplink" switch has not been pressed, or port 1 will BE an uplink port.

Do you have the 8 page foldup "Quick Installation" guide for the router?

Everything you need to know is on there.

I hope you also have the install/config disk.

With the sys plugged together like that, you open your browser, type in http://192.168.1.1/ . That will get you to "Enter Network Password" screen, leave "User Name" blank, and type in "admin" as default password.

This should get you to "Basic Setup". Follow the instructions in the Quick Install, or the documents you DL'd, or the docs on the CD itself. I haven't looked at mine for a while, but am pretty sure this is also on the CD. Browse it and print out what you need or open it in another window and refer to it.

You should have no problem with this. Every machine I bring into this house for repairs, I plug into my router and access the 'Net with, without any configuration for that particular machine.

    Cheers,

    George

edit: just posted the above to see that you already have it working.

    LOL, wow.. I am honored

That will bring the total number of donations up to 2. Unless of course you don't count the neigbor's dog that left his own little "donation" on the doorstep.

my computer ---> control panel ---> printers ---> add printer ---> choose network printer, and follow the trail until you see it. Then click on all the next or OK until it is done.

You will need to enable file and printer sharing on the other computer. Just check the windows HELP files. They should help you through the whole thing.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

You'll also have to install the printer drivers on both computers.
Which only stands to reason, right?
