An avi I want to convert to mpg has a 2.40:1 aspect ratio. I used tmpgenc to convert it to mpg, using a setting of '1x1; full screen, keep aspect ratio.' As I tried to burn, Nero told me I had to reencode the file, so I let it do so. The resulting image came out 4:3 with image cropped top sides and bottom.
What is the right setting to give me the best image for watching through my dvd player and home tv? (TV is 4:3 but letterbox is fine). thanks, arnstein

First you've got to convert the AVI to MPEG1/2. Most DVD players will not play DivX.

Of course, that's what I'm asking about, because the conversion to mpg from avi requires I make settings in TMPGenc about aspect ratio. The issue is that although I set TMPGencfor 1X1 full screen keep aspect ratio, and the resulting mpg looks fine, when burning in Nero, Nero asks to reencode and the result is 4:3 and cropped. Why is Nero unhappy with my mpg as it is and wants to reencode? I assumed it had something to do with the 2.4:1 but maybe not. That's my question.
