  1. I have the latest version of nero 5.5 (I believe it's 5.5.10.50) and I'm having problems with nero locking up whenever I select the type of media to be DVD. As soon as I choose DVD, my mouse freezes and I have to reboot the computer. I'm running Windows 98SE and using a Ricoh MP5125A DVD+R/RW and it came with nero 5.5.

If I use the nero wizard to set up a DVD for recording, everything works fine until I get to the burn step. At this point it also locks up in a similar manner.

The last thing I tried was to update the DVD's firmware. This did not seem to have any effect. I downloaded the latest nero ASPI drivers but haven't loaded them yet (that's next).

I also have Roxio Easy CD creator 5 loaded on my system and I think I'll also try to remove it as I've heard that there can be conflicts between it and nero. Should I uninstall both nero and roxio and then reinstall nero?

Any other ideas anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to burn a single DVD on my system yet due to such lockups.

    TIA

  2. Here's a bit of an update. Nero doesn't exactly totally lock up allthough it did seem like it was doing that at first. It turns out that when I select something in nero that has to do with the DVD drive, my cursor/keyboard freezes as if the system is locked up. However, if I wait 20-40 seconds, everything comes back and I am able to continue as normal. So, it seems as though there is some sort of DVD drive detection that is taking place and it takes a lot more time than it should.

As things are (now that I know it wasnt totally locking up), I can get by. It's just annoying having these extended pauses.
