  1. 1. Can you hook DV camcorders up to standalone DVD recorders and record the footage onto DVD? If so, what is the quality, and how does it compare to using a PC to author the DVD's?

    2. Say I want a 6 hour video, can I record the entire six hours onto one DVD-R disc using a standalone DVD recorder? Bitrate adjustment? I am just using this as an example, I know the quality would be terrible.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jason.

  2. Yes you can, very easily, but as you say 6 hrs on one DVD is going to be very poor quality. Plenty of info here: http://www.dvdplusrw.org/

    1) On a Panasonic DMR-HS2 (what I have), it has a DV input. If your camcorder has S-video and/or A/V outputs you could use that method too. The quality is very good at SP mode (2 hours). It would be ok on LP mode probably a little better than VCR quality (4 hours). I would not even attempt EP (6 Hours). Menus made from the Panasonic are very simple. For home movies, I transfer them to a PC, aurthor with DVD-Lab and burn from my PC DVD burner. This is for numerous reasons, those being compatibility, speed of making copies and better DVD menus.

    2) Yes you could. It would adjust the bitrate for you. As you know the quality would not be good using 6 hour speed at all.

I have converted home movies from a digital camcorder with excellant results.
