    I have a movie with .dat extension, and try to burn it using vcd option in Nero but it wouldn't work. Got any idea, please share.

    You can convert the dat back to mpg (I assume the movie is a mpeg) with VCDgear, check the tool section.
    If you did not encoded yourself, check the properties of the mpeg and burn as (S)VCD.
