  1. Looking for a quick sanity check on this process, not sure if I can do this or not.

I am trying to author my home vids (AVIs MicroMV2) to DVD with audio in AC3 format so that it playes via my AV receiver.

    My proposed process is

    1. strip out audio from AVI to WAV file using VirtualDub.
    2. encode WAV file to AC3 with BeSweet
    3. Compress AVI to mpeg2 with no audio using TMPGenc
    4. remux ac3 audio and mpeg2 video file using TMPGenc (possible ?)
    5. Burn to DVD using TMPGenc DVD Author.

    Will this work ?

I'd also like to keep if possible the mpeg 1 layer 2 audio for playback on TVs that don't have an AV amp. But I have no clue how to have two audio tracks in the same mpeg or how else to arrange them. Help !!!

With ifoedit you can add more than one audio tracks to DVD.But why do you want an additional mp2 audio track? All standalone players can handle AC3 to stereo decently.

  3. That will work OK but you don't need to bother about a seperate audio track. Standalone DVD players will play Ac3 tracks in stereo fine

  4. Ah so, if I just do Ac3 then it will play back via the Scart and also via the digital output ?

    I'll give it a try, thanks !

Yes, the DVD chip in your player will provide all the Audio signals you need.
