Anyone play with the One Pass VBR in DVD2DVD aka DVD2SVCD? I was reading a post:

https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=175834&highlight=lotr

In the post they were saying how you can use the OPVBR and it is 4-5 times quicker than a 3 or 4 pass VBR with the same quality! I read another link http://www.mpegit.net where the guide was talking about the Q factor, and how to set it. So here are my questions:

1. In DVD2DVD / DVD2SVCD you check off the One Pass VBR to achive this encoding style, right?

2. I have checked off the use calc. bitrate, which uses the calculated biterate for more accurate file size. Is this correct?

3. I see where the Q Factor is always set to 5, I am assuming that DVD2DVD calculates this automatically? Or should we be changing this?

I have tried this already, but just wanted to ask if anyone else has tried this yet and ask what the results and settings may have been.

Mine were very nice for encoding time and so so for file size.

On a 1.2 Athlon T/Bird with 256 MB, running WinXP with SP 1, LOTR was encoded with a 4 pass in about 12 hours, with OPVBR it took 2 hours and 20 min. Another movie that took 6 hours with a 3 pass VBR took only 1 hr and 22 min.

Quality - Seems just as good, but each to his own.

File Size - Approx 130 MB smaller than needed for DVD-R .

What do you guys think?
