Just wondering, since I have seen other in other threads that this would allow a better bitrate while cutting file size in half when copying from a VHS tape to DVD. For more info, see this thread:

Most of them write 704x480, 352x480 and 352x240 MPEG2.
I know at least one Panasonic does this.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Better question from my experience will be. How to get Full D1 resolution
All the recordings on my friends Panasonic E30 that I made from VHS were 352x480 instead of 704x480.Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -

yeah on panasonics the
XP 1 hour 720x480
SP 2 hour 720x480
LP 4 hour 352x480
EP 6 hour 352x480
on Magnavox/philips DVD+R recorders
HQ 1 hour 720x480
SP 2.5 hour 720x480
EP 4 hour 352x480
EP+ 6 hour 352x480
and the newer 8 hour mode is 352x240 MPEG1 -
