The Pioneer 310H uses -RW discs and can do the same editing in VR mode as the +RW units. I'm waiting for the 510H with hard drive coming out in November though as I need to use that for storage as well as editing.

  3. The next best thing to the Cyberhome will be the Sampo DVE-R3 once Sampo America have decided whether to install a DV input on it. If they don't, expect it to retail at $299. We at Area 450 are pleading with the company to install DV, and maybe sell it at $329-349, but we don't know how successful we'll be.

Should be out well in time for Christmas

The DVE-R3 will use a slightly improved version of the same Cirrus Logics chipset in the Cyberhome player and will do away with (in my opinion) the shockingly bad Comics Sans font on a light blue background for .mp3/.jpg and .wma discs that mp3 superfreak shows above (also used on the Sampo DV-R1 which is just about to be launched in Taiwan), instead using the same menu style as the other set up screens.

We found the R3 couldn't handle raw .mpg files, but does handle miniDVD.

We did two articles, one at the request of Sampo America to highlight some improvements which we believe should be done pre-launch here to both the Taiwan and US (and eventually European) models, the other when we got on our soapbox and urged Sampo to fit a DV input here - whether they listen to us is another matter

mp3 superfreak - couple of questions for you, which will probably help us at '450 :

    (1) How was your deck with DVD-RW : our sample unit had a nightmare : played fine, but the loader made all sorts of noise
    (2) Have you worked out the maximum number of characters you can have on the .mp3/.jpg/.wma discs is ? We got it up to 50 characters per file name on the DVE-R3 which beats everyone else hands down - I assume yours must be the same
    (3) How was your SVCD playback ? Again we had 10 different flavours of hell with that format !
    (4) Is there a subwoofer ON/OFF feature available ?

We'd appreciate your take on the Cirrus Logic chipset, so if you can answer those questions it would be helpful

I'm currently using the Video 1 inputs (RCA) on the rear of the unit, which are the outputs from my Toshiba VCR. My cable is analog as well, and I don't have a cable box. I can only watch one channel at the time.

No problem about military time, but one suggestion. Take it easy with the CAPS. It denotes yelling, and we speak softly here.

    1) DVD-RW works great, no extra noise
    2) I believe 50 is correct
    3) SVCD and miniDVD worked great, but no raw MPG
    4) No. It does not have a specific subwoofer output and no control of one. The outputs are all 2 channel RCA, optical or coaxial digital

Hey MP3, Sooo sorry for the caps, I was unaware.
Anyways, thanks for the info on your hookup, I thought that might be the case but I was hoping for a small miracle so if you hear back from cyberhome in regards to the RF situation, could you please post the results? Who knows, I may be in the market to sell my cyberhome, the RF thing is really bugging me knowing my brand new TV has the capabilities and I have to compromise and split the signal, thanks again. getoolin

Thanks for your help, mate - am I correct in saying that on (4) the CH does not have on-board decoding ?

Interesting that you had no problems with SVCD and DVD-RW : I'm wondering whether it must be loader related in that case

Correct. No analog 5.1 outputs like the Sampo DVE-R3. After reading the review on area450, I almost wish I would've waited for this unit...

My review of the Cyberhome CH-DVR 1500 is coming soon....I'm still working on it. Thanks for your patience.

BTW, still no response from Cyberhome Tech about my RF issue. I submitted another email today, so maybe I'll get a response soon.

getoolin - no biggie. Welcome to the dvdrhelp forums!

DP - according to the manual, yes on the AC 100V-230V, 50/60Hz. Sorry, but I don't have access to PAL material to do the test for you.

    mp3superfreak:
Thanks for checking. Too bad Cyberhome doesn't support bitsetting.

You can find more info on bitsetting/book type here. Hope that answers your question regarding bitsetting/book type.

For a DVD player or drive to identify what kind of disc is loaded, it queries the so called "Book Type Field" found in the lead-in section of each DVD disc. These few bits, commonly referred to as "compatibility bitsettings" tell the drive which low-level format specification does the media conform to, such as DVD-ROM, DVD+R or DVD+RW.

Hello Everyone, I am thinking of selling my Cyberhome 1500 dvdr player/recorder that I bought at HSN just 40 days ago, that is if the price is right. I have used it only one time to play a dvd and then my television quit on me so everything is new and intact. In the meantime while we were waiting for our television to be serviced, we received another recorder/player for an anniversary gift which is definitely an upgrade to the cyberhome 1500 so it's been a tough decision whether to let it go, keep it or return the new one I just received, but as I said if the price is right than I will let it go. Unfortunately I did not receive an HSN discount when I purchased it so I cannot just give it away. You may want to read MP3's awesome review of this player/recorder before deciding, Thanks for your interest.

No offense, but thinking you'll get more for a used one than a brand new one direct from manufacturer (even with a HSN coupon) is kinda dumb. I really want one of these, but I too, am waiting for the right price. I can wait on HSN to restock and that coupon is good until Dec 31st 2003.

The most you can expect out of this is probably a little less than the HSN discounted price. I know that's all I'd give for used equipment. And yeah, even if it was used once, it's still classified as used and not new.

Try eBay, maybe you can find a sucker there. You can't expect to make money from people in this forum, because we know what's up.

Listen, I wasn't looking for a sucker, just stating a fact and if I wanted a sucker I would be at ebay. I did pay full price for it but I don't seem to remember stating a price that I would sell it for so if you weren't interested then you shouldn't have written a reply. If I don't sell it then OH WELL, I'll just have two of them no sweat off my back so it shouldn't be any off yours!! Hey, Good Luck!!
