Hi
Well i thought i had this one nailed but it is here again to cause me pain. So whilst now i NEVER have an issue with no menu text it appears some users still do. So to that end i need some tests performed by users still having no menu text.
I have three test DVDs (approx 1MB in size):
Can you burn & try test 1.
If that fails can you burn and try test 2
and if that fails can you try test 0.
(RW media is recommended!)
Can you post back your results stating which if any gave you menu text.
TIA
CB

On my JVC N55SL none of the three samples produced the menu text.
But on a RCA they all did (which has always been the case).
Not sure if it matters but burned with Record now max, verbatium dvd+rw. -

I too was not able to see the text up to and including version 1.5.1351.26426. I had tried both line options with no success. I had given up until I saw your post with the test files. Anyway the first one worked. I do not know why.
This evening I saw there was another update to version 1.5.1354.33116 which I took. Does this version have anything to do with the text? -
On my JVC XV N5 no text was visible on all three examples. My software player works as always though.

Thanks for the tests so far.
I think the JVC player will always have problems with these menus.
My thoughts are that there are 2 "types" of menu (maybe a third for JVC!). Test 2 is what the current build of DVD MenuMaker produces. I have no numbers to hand but i suspect that for a high %-age of users this works. I shall offer the other type (test 1) in the next build, as an option. I think if your player fails with one type it will play the other... (my Dansai plays test 2 but not test 1 for example)
Can more users who have no text in the latest build (DVDMenuMaker.exe Version: 1.0.1340.18204) do the aforementioned tests? (unless there aren't any)(i have another theory which i need to check)

Now I'm really confused.
I still cannot get the texts to appear. I've tried all 3 tests and they all work.
When I do a menu I use all of the default settings, I've tried both encodes but no success. I believe that my version is current 1.5.1357.31671
Have you any suggestions? -
Not as confused as I've been!
Anyway I have another release (do an update) for you all to test. recommended settings are 1 frame, type II.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

All three of your test menus showed up and worked fine on my Philips DVD580M, but buttons still won't show up on the DVD I've been trying to make.

i have apexes and im going to test burn on rw this weekend... no time right now! sorry

Ok i want to resolve this but I am having no luck. Why? because on my player everything is tickety-boo.
I think there are two issues going on here. Karen & Randalliser can see text when they burn the samples but not when the create thier own menus. This - i've identified - is to do with short file names. I can fix this easiliy but just need some oppurtunity to do some tests with these (or any other) users. Therefore if you can see text in the test but not in your own dvds, email me (especially if you are in a time zone similar to GMT)
The other issue - no text in the tests OR in your own dvds - is more tricky to resolve. I have concluded that the only way that i have a fighting chance of solving this is to get my hands on a player which exhibits this behaviour. I have 3 options here:
1. Someone lets me borrow theirs.
2. Someone sells me theirs.
3. People collate a list of such players for me to go & buy one.
As 1 & 2 are unlikely, can people start makeing a list by replying to this thread? Bare in mind i live in the UK and so a link to a UK supplier would be most useful when posting.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

Chris, just to let let you know that I can now see the text with the last update.
Thanks for staying on this even when you did not have to. I've said it before, this is one of the best investments I ever made.
Thanks again -
