Sometime ago I made a post asking if anyone had heard of this player the Neuston Maestro DVX-1201. I had really been trying to decide between the Elta, Lite-on, and the Neuston. Well, when I did my research it does seem that the Neuston does have some additional features the others do not, but the price is considerably higher.
Well, in the end I bought the Neuston about a week ago as a birthday present for myself!!! I am absolutely pleased! It works terrific and seems to playing all my divx and xvid movies flawlessly - clear picture and sound. I only encountered two discs where the sound didn't play out of the hundreds I have tested so far.
Mostly its really easy to use, even when I upgraded the firmware. The menu is really 'user-friendly'. I've tested all my .avi discs, .mp3, audio cd, dvd, svcd/vcd. Its got so many features, I haven't explored them all yet. It does have multi-region capability, but I haven't tested my region 2 discs yet. But you just enter a code via the remote to change the region whenever you want. I also havent tested the subtitle situation yet but plan to do it soon.
My two favorite features so far would have to be:
1. The detailed file information about the cd/dvd. It makes it super easy to find the file you want to play on your disc...even if you have tons of different files and file types on one cd.
2. The Time Search function. This is way superior to my last player. It lists the total time on the disc and allows you to input the exact moment you want within the movie. Its great for .avis.
I know this isnt probably the best review. Im not an overly technical person...since Im a girl and all~ But if anyone has any questions about the player I'd be willing to test it out and answer.
Cheers,
Sunni
Oh, by the way... I got my player for $255 + free shipping from NeustonUSA.com

hello,
i am thinking of buying the dvx-1201 too and i wondered if you(or anyone else) can check a few things:
1. can it play mp3/divx/xvid burned on dvd+-r/w ?
2. how good is it's support of subtitles(especially in hebrew?) ? is it comportable for reading ? (if anyone can add a print screen...)
thank's -
In answer to your questions:
1. Yes it play mp3/divx/xvid burned on dvd+-r/w.
2. Support of subtitles is good, but Neuston seems to be continuously tweaking them over the past few firmware updates. It is encouraging that they are seriously trying to make subtitles work flawlessly. I have had a few movies that wouldn't play the subs, but then I wonder if I have the right ones or proper format. The movies that played successfully had great, easy to read size subs. There is also a shading choice so you can see them on like color scenes.
I am not really sure it there is Hebrew sub support. Check www.neuston.com for info on the exact languages supported. -
Sunni,
How is the aspect ratio control on this player? I have noticed that some people use really strange dimensions when encoding their files. Can you shrink or stretch the image to make it look right on a 4:3 TV? What about DivX files that are compressed anamorphically? Also, is there any way to fast forward or rewind during mpeg-4/DivX playback?
Out of curiosity, why did you ultimately choose the Neuston over the other players. I have been considering either the Lite-On LVD-2001 or the Kiss DP-500. I only recently learned about the Neuston. It looks like a really nice machine, but I'm not quite sure what features the Neuston has that the other players lack. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -
I got that player because of the subtitle options.
+Yes you can FF/RW, I think it's like each 10 secs.
+You can also zoom the image, to make it look like wide screen (it's a zoom control). Also you have a jump to a specific time in the movie (sometimes it works better)
+You can check the manual for more features.
I have had a few problems, that I think it's because of the movie, and not because of the player. So far the player looks pretty good to me.
I got one on ebay for $192, shipping included.
