PEOPLE! THIS IS NOT A JOKE! I AM NOT DRUNK, OR ON CRACK! EITHER THE PEOPLE AT PC CLUB HAVE LOST THEIR FREAKIN MINDS, OR THEY ARE SO STOOOOOOOOOPID THAT THEY NEED TO ENROLL IN SPECIAL ED!
I just got back from PC Club, and they are selling 25 disc spindles of Ritek G04 4X DVD-R's for $29.99!!!!!!! IMPOSSIBLE? Ok, I have the receipt in my hand RIGHT now that shows that I just bought TWO spindles for $64.00 (taxes, etc). I just emptied my bank account, and am BROKE now, but it's ALL GOOD, I'll be getting paid in 2 weeks, and I'm going to buy ANOTHER THREE spindles when I get paid! Let me start from the beginning.......
About 2 weeks ago, I went to the PC Club by my house. They had the 4X Ritek G04's (the ones with the ugly orange label on top), and they were only charging $38.75, which is ALREADY a GREAT price for a walk in store to sell those discs at. Anyways, I was sitting around the house today after I got home from work, wondering which internet site I was going to order the Riteks from when I got paid, as I have heard so many good things about Ritek, that I decided that I was going to buy some when I got paid. Out of sheer curiosity, I called the PC Club by my house to see if they had any of the ugly orange label Riteks left. The guy that answered the phone said that they did. I asked him how much they cost. He said that they were on sale for $29.99. All he heard was SILENCE on the other end of the phone. He said "Hello?" I said that I was still there, and if he could tell me the price again. He said it AGAIN........."$29.99." I asked him how many I would get for that price. He said that price was for the 25 pc. spindle that they had. I then said, "Ok, you're telling me that you have the 25 pc. spindle with the orange labels on top of each disc for $29.99?" He said, "Yes". I asked him his name, and told him I was coming over there NOW. He said, "Ok". I then went to the ATM and took all the little bit of money that I had left in there out of my account. I'm broke as a JOKE for the next 2 weeks. I got to the PC Club and found the guy. He showed me the spindles. Sure enough, they were the 4X Ritek G04's with the ugly orange labels! THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA OF THE LEVEL OF QUALITY OF THOSE DISCS! I then went into "stupid" mode. I was asking him questions like, "Are these any good?", and "Can I bring them back if they don't burn good in my DVD burner?", and, "Do they work good with the LG GSB 4040B burner?" I figure, the LESS those IDIOTS know about the fact that they're selling HIGH QUALITY DVD-R's at a RIDICULOUSLY LOW PRICE, then MORE POWER TO US WHO BURN!
I came off as a true newbie, and he seemed to think that I didn't know JACK about DVD-R's. To top it all off, I asked him, "Do you know what name brand of DVD-R's, these are?" His reply was, "Oh, they're just generic". I said "Ok, thanks for the info". And paid for the discs. On the way out, I turned around and asked him how long they'd be on sale. He said that they'll have them for that price until the end of OCTOBER!!!!!!!!!! He also said that they come in all the time, so if they sell out, they'll have more within a couple days of the sellout. I thanked him for all his info and left the store.
As SOON as I got in my car, I opened a spindle and checked the underside and saw that GORGEOUS DARK PURPLE SURFACE, which is indicative of a high quality DVD-R that's going to give you a deep burn, with a long lasting archival life! I'm not kidding you all when I say I was so excited that I was sitting in my car with a WOODY!
I got home and popped a disc into my burner and ran DVDInfo Pro. The screen capture is at the bottom of this message for your perusal. As you can see, it is most DEFINITELY a true 4X Ritek G04!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PEOPLE! GO TO YOUR LOCAL "PC CLUB" STORE AND RAPE THEM OF ALL RITEKS! IF YOU'RE GOING TO STOCK UP ON RITEKS, NOW IS THE TIME! DO IT BEFORE THESE MORONS REALIZE THE MISTAKE THEY'RE MAKING, AND THEY JACK THE PRICE BACK UP! I get paid on the 27th of this month, and I'm going to buy another THREE spindles! SCREW the dumb stuff! I'm stocking up NOW before those FOOLS realize the error of their ways!
I hope that after reading this, I help at least SOME of you out! I know that 99% of you have high regard for Riteks. This will be my 1st experience with them, as I have never used them before, even though I hear OVERWHELMINGLY positive feedback about them from this site, and from the looks of the deep purple undersides of them, I can tell that these discs are a GREAT buy for the money at a REGUL:AR price, not to MENTION the RIDICULOUS price that I paid for them today! RUN!!!!!!!!!! GO NOW TO YOUR LOCAL PC CLUB STORE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!

It's nice if you're by one of their locations, which is only a few places. But the deal is bad if you mail order. Their shipping prices are ridiculous and make the deal no better than anybody else.

Well for those of you that can't take advantage of the deal, I am truly sorry, but I was hoping that at least SOME of you might live by a PC Club, and COULD take advantage of the deal. We get ripped off enough as it is without a chance like this coming along.

  4. That's actually not that great of a deal. I get 50- 4X DVDR-s that are Inkjet Printable for only $65. Seems like you guys need to shop around a little bit, you're not getting the best prices.

Well, so far, I haven't seen a deal of that level anywhere on the net. Maybe if you know of such deals, you should post them so we ALL can know about them. At least I POSTED about what I thought was a great deal. You on the other hand had to read about someone else's post before you post of your own "great deal", or so you SAY..............

Don't get so upset -- your post was worthwhile, although a little over the top, and I think that's what Bubba was reacting to.

There are routinely many deals like this out there -- the Ritek 4X +R were just available for the same price (exactly the same price) all last week at Office Depot (they were sold under the Memorex name, but a check revealed they were the Riteks) and I picked up four packs. Is/was it a good deal? Of course, but not so fantastic you needed to be astonished by it.

Indeed, I would not under any circumstances pay *more* for any DVDR right now. It's pretty obvious prices have come down quite a bit in the last three months, and by the end of the year I'd be amazed if even the "normal" prices of quality DVDR media is any more than $1.20 a disk.

So... relax. You did a good thing by posting, it wasn't the amazing deal you thought it was but it's a good one, and don't pay more for any disk between now and the end of the year.

  10. I went there today and they didn't have any in stock (they will thursday) but I asked the guy what type they were and he said they were the same as the DVD+Rs that were on the shelf. He pointed them out.

They have a pinkish/peachish label (not orange IMO)
They have what looked to be a mountian scene in a real light black stencil.
The pack was open and I looked at the underside and it was dark dark blue.

Question: are these also Ritek's just the + version?

    Thanks

  13. I don't want to burst anyone's bubble but I actually posted this last week, and just wanted to mention that those are going to be on sale until the 18th or at least that's what the guy told me, but hopefully they'll renew the price. The only question I have though is how did you get DVDinfoPro to work, it didn't work for me when I tried to ID the manufacturer. If you can help me out X I'd appreciate it.

  14. Memo_182,

Use ADVDinfo, its simplistic not like that gotty DVDInfoPRO.

Also like I said before there are no returns on purchased media from PC CLUB. Even if defective. Those tricky bastards have it on there receipts they make you sign

  16. Thanks a lot you guys I'll try both suggestions. Could the problem also be my DVD-Rom/burner when the programs try to read the DVD-r?

  17. Be aware that not all the firmwares can give you info on BLANK media.
In some cases you have to burn something on it first.

  18. Just picked up 2 packs
Orange tops and dark purple underneath

Question: is it normal for these DVD-Rs to have some ragged edges?
Like some of the actual plastic didn't make it to the very edge of the mold or something like that...about 10 out of 25 have this.

    Thanks

  19. I would consult the vendor over that, sounds defective or damaged to me!
If the edges are not as they should be, smooth, round , all there, I would think damage is going to occure due to out of balance!

Depending exactly what you mean about
Like some of the actual plastic didn't make it to the very edge of the mold or something like that...about 10 out of 25 have this.
I would not even use one for testing myself.
If it is out of ballance it could damage your drive, if it shatters it will of course damage your drive for certain and maybe even you too ?

Personally, if a disk were missing plastic, if molding defects or chips, whatever I would send them back as defective!

Hey MKelley. After reading your post, I see that the best thing is to NOT post info to help others out, because there is always someone trying to bring you down, no matter what you do or say. That's why the RIAA is being so successful. Like Snoop Dog said "Snitches and B***ches". From now on, any deals that I find on anything computer related, I will not post about. Thanks for your advice, MKelley!

To ME the tops look orange. Yes, they have the mountain scene drawn on the background in black stencil, and the bottoms are a dark purple hue, not blue. My versions are -R's. Hey stiltman, you ever consider corrective lenses?

Somehow, I just have missed your post, cuz I didn't see it. As far as DVDInfo pro when you check the blank, make sure you put it in the BURNER, not the ROM drive. Put it in the burner, then run DVDInfo Pro. I have that same problem when I try to view media info on a blank when I put it in the DVD Rom drive and run DVDInfo Pro. But it works (for me at least) everytime I use it in the burner drive.

Well, if you're going to take a chance with non returnable media, it might as well be Ritek blanks. Better that than if the blanks were Princo, which for most of us WILL have at least SOME defective discs in the pack.

Some of mine have the same thing. Just make sure that none of the edges are actually splintering off. On 1 of the disks, I took a razor and scraped off that bit of edge that looked like it might splinter off. It gave me no problems when I burned it, or played it in my stand alone.
