My all time favorite hobby is flying and aviation. I've had my pilot's license for about a year and a half now and have loved every minute of it.
Here is a picture from the plane as I am on the downwind leg of my approach to my destination airport. This was taken on my first solo cross-country flight (anything over 50 nautical miles). This particular trip was something in the range of 70 nautical miles one way (about 80 statute miles).

Solarjetman, thats an awesome hobby. I think I'll learn how to fly eventually(right after I get over my fear of heights).

That's cool, Solar....
I picked up some info from a local airport that gives lessons.... my only hold up is the time... If I go to learn, I want to be able to concentrate on just that.... not be distracted with everything else. I'm the type that needs to be able to absorb the info without interuption.
I've been wanting to do the ground school for years now, but life has been going so fast.... school, marriage, house, child, job, and now another child on the way.....
.... maybe next year I can do the ground school. I have a friend of mine that I met at work years ago, he's now retired. Anyway, he was an airport Dispatcher in the Marines and in the civilian life for almost 35 years. He can tell some stories about what goes on in the background of some of these airports... some of them would make you wonder how we get planes off the ground....
oh well... someday....
BTW: Hobbies = home improvement, computers, Porsche, and a good book every now and then. -
Thanks Devanshu and shoozleboy. I am not sure if you were being sarcastic or not Devanshu, but if you or anyone else is interested in getting into aviation (or just want to put your toes in to see if you like it), almost all flight schools have an introduction lesson that tends to be cheaper than normal lessons if you want to see if its "right for you".

Some things just don't make any sense if you take them individually, but as a whole, it seems to work"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

I wasnt being sarcastic...I really think it would be a cool skill to have. For starters, I'm not too comfortable with heights. The most I can handle is bungee jumping. I enjoy flying, as long as I dont look down.

I dragraced motorcycles for 10 years (very successfuly) before raising a family effectively put an end to it. I'm planning on getting back into it when I retire. I might even try flying, I always wanted to do it but didn't have the time.
Now I'm into Video and sports (mostly my son's). I still have 2 really fast bikes in my garage that I take out now and then. I like to wind the piss out of them, it gets the adreniline flowing.
Hey i_am_dave, send me some of that wine.Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -

Hey i_am_dave, check your messages.
When I was growing up, my family made our own wine. I remember squashing the grapes with my feet when I was little. We would make barrels of it and always drank it at the dinner table. We also made our own sosauge.Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
You should really get back into it. I just started this year. My wife bought me a starter kit for Christmas.
I can make drinkable stuff for about $1 a bottle using concentrates.
The Pear I have going cost me $4 (That's about $0.16 per bottle). That was the cost of the sugar, chemicals and yeast. A friend had a tree with really good fruit and I told him that if he would supply the fruit, I would split the yields with him.
Besides being cheap, it is just a lot of fun to mess with!Just what is this reality thing anyway? -

Thats what I thought at first too. But then I realized he wrote pool. British lingo I guess.

Snooker is not pool, I play Snooker, 8 ball english pool and have also been known to play 9 ball American pool.
With snooker you have a 12' x 6' table, 15 reds in a triangle, a black ball just behind the reds at the bottom of the table and a pink ball at the top point of the triangle. A blue ball in the centre of the table, and a yellow green and brown ball on the baulk line at each end and the centre of the D. You obviously also have a cue ball.
Reds are worth 1 point, yellow 2, green 3, brown 4, blue 5, pink 6 and black 7. You score points by first potting a red, you must then nominate a colour. You do this alternately red, colour, red colour until you miss then that is the end of the break. Reds once potted stay in the pockets, colours are returned to their spots. Once all the reds are potted the colours are potted sequentially in order of value i.e. yellow to black.
I knew snooker was not popular in the states but I thought you would have at least heard of it.
Here is a diagram of a Snooker Table and how the balls are set up.
If you want to know more Look Here
It is a very good game, and is much more challenging than pool. -
Sounds like a fun game. I always thought snooker and pool were the same thing. I'll definitely try it with my buddies sometime. Thanks

Well, you learn something everyday!
