I am trying to backup my copy of LOTR Two Towers but I am having a major problem

I am used to using DVDShrink and prefer to use it, however when I open disk I am getting a copy protection error - sector is encrypted and then it stops.

Anybody know how I can get around this?

Yes, get DVD Decrypter and rip all the files to your hard-drive and then use DVD Shrink!

  3. You shouldn't have to decrypt with another tool. DVD shrink does that. Are you using the latest version? (I think the very earliest versions didn't decrypt). I recommend the latest beta.

Nah, sometimes DVD Shrink's decryption routines hit a title they can't quite unprotect. They're just not as reliable as those in DVD Decryptor.

Try the latest DVD Shrink, and if that doesn't help just rip with DVD Decryptor - it's free after all...

  7. Did you play the actual DVD in the drive for a few seconds to unlock it ?

  8. Hi,
No, why do I have to play it for a few seconds.
When I trie to read it with DVD-Shrink (2.3 or 3.0b) then it stucks at 50percent, every time.
When I trie it with DVD-Decrypter, the decrypter canīt read decrypt two files???

  9. Look at your disk close and check for damage?

I never played my original Two Towers disk! Only time it came out of the case was to back it up!

    I used DVDshrink 3 Beta5, worked perfect!
I used the default settings in shrink, maybe took out any extra languages (I often do) and that was that

I burned it with Nero video dvd, and it played perfect on my stuff.

I did not play the original yet, and dought I will! Quality on the backup is great! Fellowship of the rings I also did, that one I have watched both Original AND Backup, No difference I can see! On my stuff they have the exact same quality as far as Me, wife, and kid can tell!
So since TT looks great, and it the same lengnth (3hr) movie, I guess it is also pefect. Or as close as I care for!

So DVDshrink 3 beta5 will do the job on that disk, it is a problem elsewhere if you can't get it!

If you don't have 3 beta 5 it's a fast small download, free, so try it! Also I did NOT use the deep analisys feature, that might get even better quality, but I get as good as the real disk without it, so I don't take the extra time!
Just my personal experince, your mileage may vary.

  10. I had exactly the same problem:

I inserted the disk in the DVD-writer and got the message. Put it into the DVD-Rom and DVDShrink worked fine.

    WEIRD!!

  11. Mine stoped at 50% also, I think it is because it is a new version of the dvd two towers, which they used a new type of encryption that none of the decrypters out there can crack. I tried everything, you can't even copy the file VTS_01_4.VOB of the cd to your hd. When I tried just to deal with this file it stopped every time at 61%. If anyone one has any information on how to get around that it would be great. Also, I don't understand how this new type of encyption is legal since the ower of the dvd can legally back it up?

    Thanks

burners and readers might have different resolving abilities. if one does not work use the other. this dvd is not the only one that people have trouble ripping. it is most likely not the dvd but your hardware. i know first hand my NEC 1300a has problems ripping but not my Lite-On 166 on the same dvd.
