  1. Hi,

I have a Philips DVD player and every dvd and dvd-r it plays has blocks/pixels that appear on the screen. It is kind of difficult to describe. There is no pattern I can see as to when the blocks/pixels appear. They only last less than a second each time. It kind of reminds me of the blocks that appear on Satellite TV when the satellite signal starts to be lost.

What is causing this? Has anyone had this problem?

    Thank you.

If it does it on all DVD's, I would say it is a player problem. If it only does it on homemade single layer DVD's, it is probably a media problem. Or, you are using -R media for a player that only reads +R properly, or vice versa.

There may even be a dirt problem in the player itself. I believe there may be some cleaning products available to clean the laser pickup.

  3. I cleaned my dvd player. The blocks showed up again 3 times during a movie near the end. I'm going to try to clean it again.

    Thanks.

  4. 8) if it does it on original DVD then it is a player problem. Bring it back and punch the salesman in the face
Cleaning the outside of the player will have no effect on the pixellation.

  5. It does it on ALL dvds, dvd-r's and original full length movies. I do believe it is a player problem, but I've put up with it too long to take it back. I did not clean the outside of the player. I used the Discwasher Digital 2-Brush Wet Laser Lens Cleaner. Which says it is ideal for DVD, CD, CD-ROM, and video games.
