  1. iam trying to convert a ac3 pal to ntsc and keep 5.1 sound i extractrd audio with virtualdub and encode it with besweet and ac3machine changing the framerate from 25000fps > 29970fps and selecting 5.1 output and same bitrate as origanal ac3 file (448) i end up with a working ac3 file but it is about 17 seconds shorter than the encoded video file and seems to play back at a faster speed i also tryed using bsweetgui and besweetv.15b with gives the same length ac3 file as the video with5.1 but is al scathy sounding with no bass at all is there a way to get an ac3 5.1 to match my video or to fix the ac3 file i encoded with ac3machine so that is not 17 seconds shorter than video any help would be very welcome
    ty in advance

  2. Strange...
I think the best way to do a PAL -> NTSC conversion is slowing down the movie from 25 to 23.976 fps and doing a Telecine on video. Audio must be slowed in the same way. The correct result would be the audio being bigger and sounding slower. To eliminate "Darth Vader's voices" is applying a filter that keeps pitch. The problem is that audio is ac3. I don't know if besweet can handle it. But, it worths a try.

  3. i have been using canopys procoder when converting fro 25000fps >29970 fps and it seems to work quite good if i use the audio it outputs but it only outputs in 2 channel and this file has ac3 5.1 witch would be nice to keep i can't seem to change the framrate in procoder the box is grayed out or i would try to edcode at 23976 fps in the past i had used tmpgenc and had problems with the video being jerky i am going to try and fix ac3 with cool edit i will post my results
    thx for replying

  4. U need to use BeSweet and the 25 fps to 23.976 option. This is the correct setting not 29.997 fps. 29.997 is the frame rate you use only if the original source is from a video camera. Any movie (source is film almost always except Star Wars Episide I and II) source will be 23.976 with what is called a pulldown flag. This tells the DVD player to hardware re-sync the DVD to 29.997 so it plays correctly on the NTSC Television.

When you convert to NTSC from PAL the movie length is increased by around 4.1%. The audio needs to be slowed down by the same ratio, BeSweet will do this perfectly.

EDIT: I wanted to add that BeSweet does indeed handle the conversion correctly I have done it. It keeps all the channels intact as well with no distortion or anything like that. I do believe the file is re-coded however so you do lose some quality but it is not really noticable.
