  1. Anyone know what the exact lines of resolution is for standard cable?

    I like to record certain programs on cable with my Digital 8 Camera. I was wondering how many exact lines of resolution fo you think that captures from a standard cable signal?

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

  2. I think the general answer would be somewhere beetween 352x480 and 720x480, leaning more toward the 352x480 side.

    I think I remember reading somewhere (but I can't remember where) that 704x480 (for NTSC) is broadcast resolution.

    i think he means cable as in cable tv , as on a carrier RF multiplexed ..

    the resolution will vary is the correct answer -- but you will never see 720x 480 or close to it ..

    but what you use to capture it will determine what you have now ..

  5. I use my digital 8 camera/analog pass thru to record and it looks just as good as a normal DVD recorder on SP Mode (maybe even a bit better).

    It def looks A LOT better than a normal VHS SP Mode recording.

    How many lines of resolution is a typical Digital8 camera passthru? I have a TRV-320 Sony.

  6. D8 will give you around 450-500 lines of resolution, lower than that of MiniDV which is around 525. But that really doesnt matter if you're recording off of TV unless it is a digital source you are recording.

  7. Why is it that my D8 recordings are MUCH better than my VHS SP recordings if they both come from the same cable source and can only capture a certain amount of lines of resolution?

    Because if D8 = say 500 (good) and CATV = say 450 (not bad) and VHS = say 300 (ugly),
    450 --> 500 == 450
    450 --> 300 == 300

    Have a look
