I have a NEC 1100A writer (for DVD+R/RW), and looking for DVD player to buy. I understand that the difference between the -R/RW and +R/Rw is in media, not only in format. So haw is that 80-90% of all DVD player can run -r/rw media, and 80-90% of all DVD player can run +r/rw media?
If the technical spec of a DVD player does not say +R/RW, does it mean that it can not run it?
If it says +RW, does it mean that it can not play +r media?
Thanks,
Ben

I am having a little trouble with your question. Do you want to know what players are compatible with +r/rw or do you want to know why said players are either compatible or incompatilble?

The book types between -r and +r are really what make them different. If the player does not have the capability of interpreting the booktype, then the burned DVD will not play.
Not all the players will tell you in the instruction manual if they will play + or -, that is why a place like DVDRHELP is good to look up the results that others have had with different machines.
