  1. I live in Greece and the only cheap dvdr's are the following:

    1)Nec1300A (+/- 4x)
    2)Toshiba sd5112 (dvd-r 4x)
    3)Sony u10A (+/- 4x)
    4)Sony u410a +r 4x only (I can't find any info for this)

I would like to buy one of the two first devices because they are 30$ cheaper than the sony u10a.But if you tell me that nec and toshiba suck, then i will buy the sony u10a.The u410a is a +r only and i don'y like it much.
One of my friends bought the nec1300a and it has low reading performance (1xdvd,4x cd really low!).Is this a known issue or he didi something wrong? The toshiba is an new modell but the older 2x was great.Looks like a sure thing.
I want the dvdr to duplicate movies and for backing up.
If you know, you can tell info such as writing on cheap media and stuff. This is my first time visiting here. You have a nice forum!
    Thanks in advance...

  2. I just bought the NEC 1300A. I also put it in an external firewire case. It works great. The first thing you should do is upgrade the firmware to herries 1.7(do a search). I have not burned a coaster yet and I am using compUSA 1x DVD-R(Princo), writing at 2x. Great burner!!

  3. thanks for the reply.
Just one question. Is the nec1300a a good reader? 3x for cd's is what a friend of mine measured... and 1x for dvd's.And one last question: Is the flashing procedure easy ???
