  2. you don't need to buy a new DVD player and hack it. there is a macrovision decoder box you plug inline between your player and recorder and it will decode the macrovision signal as it plays. costs about $40. I know you can get them at lik-sang.com but there are probably some domestic sites to order from as well.

You need two disable two things to be able to do this...

    1. Macrovision Copy Protection - You can either buy a black box as was suggested from Lik Sang, or get a DVD player whose firmware is hackable.

    2. Disable the CGMS signal your DVD player puts out which tells the Panasonic Recorder not to record. For this you can either get a time base corrector(?) or again get a DVD player whose firmware is hackable.

You need to get arround both, to make the backup. I picked up a cheap SAMPO player which was pretty hackable. Look at www.area450.com for tons of info.

That said it is probably faster, once you know how to make backups with a PC and a DVD burner.

I was always dreaming for an ideal DVD player that will play DVD (NTSC and PAL), VCD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and Kodak Picture CD, and be able to disable macrovision.

Yesterday my dream become true. I bought DAYTEK P 871 player that does everything above and some more... for only US$50.00... from Future Shop in Toronto... Canada...

I made perfect DVD copies on my Pioneer-E60 recorder.

I was using TDK 2x media and some generic unbrended media. No, I am not member of redflag (what is that?).

  7. Best DVD Player for making backup copies is DVD Writer (PC). It is so easy to backup DVD and it takes less then hour. Burners are cheap now ( I saw some for little more then $100 ). Trust me.
