I just captured my mini dv to my hard drive with a firw wire card (dazzle)
The movie is an hour long and the file is huge. Am i wrong or will compressing this thing to 4.7 gb ( i am going to burn it to a dvd) look like crap? I am going to use the dazzle complete software to author. Any good suggestions on a better program? i want to have great quality so if it takes time to encode that is no problem. I am going to use the dazzle decoding? i think. where is the guide for doing all of this???? any help would be great.

Greetings smittymike19
Thats NOT huge you should try 'uncompressed' --Expect 13Gb per hour of DV..The movie is an hour long and the file is huge..
Err both ... BTW it is 4.38Gb not 4.7Gb (marketing). The "quality" (don't like this word when talking compression) will be affected by many things : encoder engine , how many passes (ie : how ofter the encoder tries to get best allocation of bitrate) and how much (time wise) video you are putting on the DVD - just to name a few.Am i wrong or will compressing this thing to 4.7 gb ( i am going to burn it to a dvd) look like crap
I am sure every NAFA will be just jumping up and down screaming CCE , CCE ,CCE ..... when TMPGEnc just as good a job - So what - set it up .. go to bed. Yes .. yes yes ..slower but has a easier interface.Any good suggestions on a better program?
As above - TMPGEnc also look at CCE , MainConcept encoders..i want to have great quality so if it takes time to encode that is no problem..
HUH !?I am going to use the dazzle decoding? i think
Guides all over this site... move the mouse ..... <---- that way ... Find Guides ...... 'click'where is the guide for doing all of this????
FYI : 1 hour of MPEG2 will fit on a DVD with room to spare.
