Must read post... must read post...
Sorry
To answer your question, you are capturing it in an uncompressed or nearly uncompressed file. If you want to make it smaller there are a few things you can do...
1) reduce the resolution you capture at
2) reduce the framerate (not an option if you are burning it to a video disk)
3) compress the file with a codec like DivX or mpeg.
Easiest way is just to make it an mpeg with TMPGEnc.
EDIT: If you are capturing directly to mpeg, then lower the bitrate. I was assuming you were capturing to an avi file format."A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

sorry, left my crystal ball at home. What are your settings that you currently use and what software are you using. what is you OS. What also have you tried? Do you care about quality. What is more important, time, quality or space?
Why is this a must read? What I see (without my crystal ball) is someone who is probably using the ati software that came with their tv wonder card, who has read NO guides on this site. Maybe you "must read" some guides. I would suggest one by lord smurf. Why dont you use the handy dandy search function to find him or look in the guides section for capture. -

I don't mean to be an ass, but WHY must I read this thread?
It doesn't apply to anything I am doing or have done in the past. So why would I read it? Even if I knew the answer, I would not likely help with your problem. The only MUST READ threads are the ones that the owner/admin and mods put up concerning rules and important announcements! Things like, Hey the forum will be closed for XXXXX reason, so don't bother coming here on XXXXXX day.
Sorry if I have offended anyone, but it's not very polite to demand answers!
If you would like to pay me for answers, then you can demand them from me. If you pay me well enough, I will come to your computer, and help you solve your problems.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
Although I agree with you village idiot,
What'd you do get up on the wrong side today, or not go to bed at all the last day or two?
Hey here's something you gotta read though!
I looked at the guide you have in the sig for building a CD/DVD printer. WOW
Although I do not have that printer to try and make one like your guide, I have now gained the courage and ambition to butcher an HP I have!
It should have been butchered long ago, like day it was new anyway!
If it works, then I will try a better quality printer next like a Canon I850. That would be a great one to use, if it worked!
But man I don't want to butcher one of those on the first try! -
You know, I have a HP 682C that collects dust. Hmmm... I wonder.

What's wrong with being an ass ? I enjoy it sometimes.
I wish I still had my flatbed pen plotter -
overloaded_ide and Lordsmurf, you both have PM. BTW some of the Canons have been done, like the S200. Find the thread in OT and you will find a link for modded printers. The prices are real high!
Normally I would have just skipped this one. But I seem to recall many of the same type of post lately. And they are almost always posted by people that will not read the stickies about posting rules. Nearly all forums have guidelines that suggest using phrases like MUST READ will get you nothing but trouble. Once in a while, I will let manners slip and rip on someone. This guy just happened to be the unlucky # XXXX customer. No prizes here! Considering a few other things, they got off real easy.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
For the rest... OT would be Off Topic. The area where few dare to tread
Also check computers forum for some more info on the printer projects.

You must be captureing "AVI" file's or very high "MPEG2" file's if there mpeg 2 files you can lower the bitrate to make them smaller.

Hey Idiot :P
Huh sorry, I meant Mr. The village idiot sir
some of the Canons have been done, like the S200. Find the thread in OT and you will find a link for modded printers. The prices are real high!
Ok I got results, but nothing about what I was looking for.
printers mods, printer modding, printer modification, modifying printers, modded printers, awwwww
I even made sure spelins were corect two
Can you suggest the correct key word or phrase so I can find info that might be already posted on the subject of building my own disk printer???
I know, I read your guide, that I have no trouble finding
But if there is any other info on the subject I can't find it
I did find alot about printers that have nothing to do with what we are talking about though, grrrrrr
And that is why I ask questions that look like I don't do searches, I do them! I just don't find anythng
THANK YOU.
