  1. Which brand DVD-R disks have you guys been using with this?

I tried DupEZ 4X disks...they work, but not very good. When I read them back using DVDInfo speed test it can barely read them at 1x and it has quite a few read errors causing it to re-read sectors.
I haven't tried playing it back on a standalone DVD player besides the Sharp...

  3. I tried Ritek G04's and they work great on the Sharp DVD recorder.
I burned almost the entire disc and it reads back without errors on my NEC 1300A

I have burned probably 100 Princo (AKA: Leda) 1x whitetop DVDr disks using my Sharp dvd recorder. I get them for about 84cents (100pk) at www.Shop4Tech.com with no shipping costs. I've burned over 400 of these on my PC over the last 2 years with very, very few coasters. In fact, at the start of my Princo (Leda) from Shop4Tech days is when most of the failures occurred. I have not had a due-to-bad-disk coaster in the last 200 or so. The whitetop Princos used to have a bad rep with not wanting to burn all the way out to the edge... I have no problems. But most of my stuff (softball and travel footage) doesn't burn all the way to the edge. When I need to do so, though, no problem!

I also use 1x DVD-RWs in my Sharp... I've used Memorex, Maxell, one TDK... and recently cheap whitetop 1x Princos (Leda) from Shop4Tech at about 1.45 each (25pk). They have been working flawlessly... all the way out to the edge.

I use 1x because that's the only speed my PC can use (A04 without the "upgrade" to 2x). You might not want to use 1x. My setup works perfectly and I'm not willing to risk messing stuff up by changing my drive's configuration/software.

Oh! and the whitetop Princos play on everything that will play DVDr disks. My Toshibas (portable 2500 and dvd/tv tabletop), my Sony and Koss, and my pal's, oh, what are they called? Those really cheap $50 dvd players? Argggh! You know what I mean (starts with an A). These princos play on everything my old Memorex, TDK, Panasonic, and Maxells play on. I started recording dvds when you could ONLY get the regular "brand name" dvdr disks. And nobody sold them in bulk packs. Let's see.... I've been burning disks for about 2 years now. I love the Princos. Oh, and my early recorded Princos (little over a year ago) play just fine.
