  1. I'm sorry if this is a bit too basic of a question, but I'm rather new to Mac video programs, and SVCDs in general. I've read up about SVCDs, so I understand most of it. I've worked with VCDs in the past, but I'm interested in trying out SVCDs because of their quality. I have ffmpegx 0.08b for the encoding, and am confused as to what settings I should choose. The quick presets don't give me the results I want. I have a 25 minute or so anime episode I want to convert to one SVCD, and I don't know what to set for it. The file is in .avi format. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure future newbies would appreciate it as well so they can actually find some information on this subject!

To be honest, its been covered SOOOO many times that its just pointless to keep typing it over and over again.

    try a forum search.
id suggest starting with divx to SVCD
or even to DVD as the process is very similar.

    another GREAT resource is...... homepage.mac.com/major4
since he did make ffmpegx, he has descriptions about EVERY tab and option there and what it does ETC.

if you are still totally lost after your searches and you have tried an app or two you know where to post

(ps, how is it exactly you had ffmpegx set ??)

  3. OK, I tried it a little bit more. I opened up a DivX (I think) file. It ends in .AVI. I chose SVCD (NTSC) from the quick presets, and unchecked:
    Letterbox
    Pull 3:2

I checked convert wtih mplayer or something like that on the same screen as the two things I unchecked. It's just an anime show, so I don't need those film options. I don't think. This is what I got:

It kinda got stuck. My mac's hard drive is also on the verge of failure, too, so I'm sure that might be doing something, but if anyone has any tips, please say so. It says contact the author, so if you're reading this, here ya go.

  4. If your .avi is a DivX movie, then use DivX Doctor II (available from 3ivx.com) to create a .mov wrapper. Make sure that you can open the .mov in Quicktime player. Then encode the .mov file.

  5. OK. I did all that, and I keep getting a .wav file instead of an .mpg file. I've given up trying to do SVCD and am just doing VCD, right now, mind you. So when trying to encode to VCD with the NTSC quick preset, and with encoding with quicktime with letterbox off, all I get is the .wav file.
