    Hello all,

I'm completely new to this stuff. A Lacie DVD recorder turned for me in the post a couple of days back. I'd ordered it of course but now I'm wondering, how on earth do I make use of it? Apart from data backups? I've made a few experiments with ffmpegX but nothing that'll let me convert a DivX movie (or whatever) to anything that can be imported to QTSP. Could somebody help me out please? I'll give you a quick example. I've aquired a movie that came out in the USA back in May. It's already available on DVD over there but here (UK), it's not even at cinemas yet. What I'd like to do is (and I know that it's possible (perhaps only with a PC)) can I put this DivX onto DVD without leaving it to run overnight?

That's probably asking a lot. it takes a few hours to convert divx to a dvd.
Also, if the divx is in ntsc format and you have a pal only TV (or vice versa), you may not be able to play it. There is ways to convert to a different format but it takes some reading up from the forums.

On the other hand, simply converting a divx to dvd is pretty straightforward and has been discussed a lot in this forum.
If you need help after doing a search, be more specific with your questions and people will respond.

    try that.
if you are still baffled, let us know when you have tried a few apps.
    specifically ffmpegx.
*check the homepage it has lots of useful info*

the topic has been covered WAY to much and it would be easier for you to searh and read than for me or someone else retype a how to for you.

hhum, ok, I tried (I did before posting too) searching for DivX to DVD (in the Mac video forum) and all the results I get are pretty much junk to me, just discussing DVD to DivX or VCD/SVCD to DVD. If somebody could point me to a specific thread where this is discussed, it's be brilliant. I can follow instructions pretty well, but do I need to convert my DivX to VCD to DVD? I guess that this sounds really stupid. I'm feeling pretty stupid, it's 04.35 here and I've gotta hit the sack.

BTW, I didn't mention that I've managed to create a DVD image (using DivX Doctor & ffmpegX), ready to burn but it took about 12 or 14 hours (on a dual 500 G4) but it has a major problem. There are no chapters, the whole movie is one big one.

Does your divx have chapter? Probably no.
Hence what you have is what you get.

if you want chapters you are about to embark on the wonderful world of CRAZY TIME CONSUMING LEARNING DVD STUDIO PRO!

sorry, there are ways around it *ie using sizzle to compile the image after you have a .mpeg ready to go into it. You can set the chapter marks and then have it compile the dvd image.

dont really know off the top of my head the 1. 2. 3. on it because its been SOOO Long. Divx is sort of dead in my mind. But people still use it.

Id tinker around with getting your divx to .mpeg2 synced and ready to go, then check out Sizzle and its options.

Basically it can be done, but i dont have 14+ hours to sit here and 1. 2. 3. it for you. Its much better when you work step by step, as you are doing, and then post what you have and usually someone has been there before and says OH do this next.

    So id say
    1. get your divx to .mpeg2 (which you must know how to do since you have it already but without chapters)
    2. toy around with sizzle;s options and see if you can figure out how to add the chapters

Yeah, I'm still having hassles with the whole thing and I think that the new posts in the Mac video forum will help a lot. Cheers for the info.

if you have DVD Studio Pro you also have the quicktime MPEG2 export option.

The easiest way to accomplish this is to ensure that your Divx can play in Quicktime and export it to MPEG 2. You may need to use Divx Doctor to convert the .avi to a .mov file.

If your Divx file has AC-3 audio, Divx doctor will save the AC-3 file only. In this case You can then export in Quicktime to MPEG2 and opt to NOT save the audio, as you have the AC-3 track already.

If you are intimidated by DVDSP, then author the resulting files in Sizzle.

I know that this topic has been covered time and time again... Especially in the past week...
