  7. Why?

Stop replying to my posts "g_shocker182". All I want is help.

The files on a dvd, are they in mpeg format or are dvd files a different format?

I want to know because I burnt a movie and that worked on my dvd player. On another occassion I burnt from a music vcd, convert the .dat files to Mpeg files and created a dvd-r with ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY v 2.0 SE. Why won't the music dvd-r play in my dvd player and my movie dvd-r (Two Towers) does?

  8. DVDs use vob files, which basically contain MPEG video, subtitles, etc. From an mpeg, you need an authoring program to make the DVD File/Folder Structure for a burning application to burn to a dvdr.
Is this a music cd? What do you mean by Music VCD?

First thing you need to do is rename the .dat file to .mpg. Then you may be able to use it in an authoring app. Depends on the app.

  10. The music vcd contains a band playing a concert live and there are video clips on it. They are in ".dat" format and the files are called "AQSEQO1 to AQSEQ13".

What program do I use to convert these files to dvd files?

I have Nero Express and Ulead DVD MOVIEFACTORY v2.0 SE.

Backups of DVD movies are fully compliant unless you mess it up and that's why they work so well. Converting from vcd can result in a number of errors. Too low a bitrate, wrong framerate, wrong resolution (framesize), audio format problems, menus not working etc...

VCD is mpeg1 and DVD is mpeg2. I have heard that some players will accept mpeg1 dvd but I have never tried it.

You want to use your own tools and that's ok but you will have to give a step by step account of your problem if you expect to get help solving it.
In addition some users will not use Ulead products so that may limit some help if the problem is Ulead specific.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  13. Follow this guide:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/141726.php#vcd

Import the created MPEG files into TMPGEnc and join them under "mpeg tools". With that final MPEG, import it into TMPGEnc DVD Author, where you can make chapter points, menus, and finally burn it to DVD.

The DVD spec includes both MPEG1 at 352x240 1150-1856 and MPEG2 at 352x240, 352x480, 704x480, and 720x480 2.0-10.08 (although the VBR is allowed to dip below 2.0) but not average below it. MPEG2 can also have interlace and 16:9.

The proper way is to extract MPEG data from the DAT using ISOBUSTER.

The DVD standard includes mpeg1, if the video is DVD compliant then your DVD player should play it.

Here are the legal DVD NTSC resolutions:

    720 x 480 pixels MPEG2
    704 x 480 pixels MPEG2
352 x 480 pixels MPEG2 (Same as the CVD Standard)
    352 x 240 pixels MPEG2
352 x 240 pixels MPEG1 (Same as the VCD Standard

If you have a VCD then do not convert the video to mpeg2, that will only result in a loss of quality. Rip the mpeg to disk, convert the audio, author and burn to disk like in the guide.

  18. So ZippyP, what I have done is converted the .dat files from the vcd and saved them as MPEG1 files on my hard drive. Now how do I convert those to dvd files?

How do I convert the audio from the MPEG1 files to DVD files?

How do I author the MPEG1 into VOB(DVD FILES)?

    My quote:
VCD is mpeg1 and DVD is mpeg2.
I am referring to his source videos by comparing the DVD movie whichs he says works and the vcd source which he says does not work. I am aware of the DVD standard but do not make any mpeg1 DVD's it would be pointless. All the vcd I made were from my original DVD movies. I am in the process of recreating those I want on DVD from my original DVD. Thankfully a lot of my vcd's were on cdrw so I can just erase them and resell the blanks to those less fortunate.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

My post will create vob files in the authoring step, but with that program it is automatically burned if you want.

    This is easier.

  21. g_shocker182, do I need to join the created mpeg files in tmpgenc or can I leave them as they are?

Also, do I use TMPGENC DVD AUTHOR or can I use ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY SE V2.0 to author?

I recommended TMPGEnc for joining the files if you wanted them joined, and you don't have to of course. You can use any programs you like to author.

There are very very few DVD authoring programs that are freeware. InfoEdit has very basic authoring and it is the only free one I heard of, and is the only one with a link in the tools section.

However, according to the guide, InfoEdit does not make 100% compliant disks.

I recommend if you are going to be making DVDs, instead of just VCDs to spend a bit of money and get a good one like TMPGEnc Author or DVD lab. You'll probably grow to like the added functionality.
