Windows slowly rots. You have to re-install everything every few months.

lmao ... rots .... thats a good one ... (sometimes true - sometimes not)

could also be a slew of other factors - or more than one ...

get a new pc would be a easy solution as a 450 doesnt cut it much in encoding and such .

I used to reformat and reinstall W98 every three months, then I switched to XP and it's a lot more stable. If you run a lot of programs through your computer, your OS can get corrupted. One other thing to check is your memory. Encoding is very memory intensive and it will show up any memory problems. Download a memory test program and give it a try. If you can afford it, I would replace your computer. It's marginal for encoding video.

Cpu/mb overheat is a very common cause of lockups.
When's the last time you cleaned your cpu fan and heatsink?

Get a cpu/motherboard temperature monitor program and check the temps when you are doing heavy duty processing.

Open the side of your tower and place a regular house fan pointed right at your cpu.

Now run the same process as before and check the temperature again.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  6. Thanks very much to those who replied... I found the problem and I hope this will be of a help to someone else...

I did the mistake of buying a generic pc and it sucks...anyway, I once tried to install win2k server on my machine but it kept crashing until I acceesed CMOS and changed the setting for "Assign IRQ for VGA" to Yes from the default No. I just rememebered this so I changed it to No again and boom I can decode again...

I know that the hardware can play a big part in this but I never thought that this change will cause TMPGEnc to crash or freezes.

    Cheers.
