  1. I'm capturing DV from a video camera using scenalyzer. When I open the AVI file in ACIcodec http://avicodec.duby.info/ it says the codec is a Sony Digital Video or dsvd=Sony Digital Video. But if I look at installed video codecs
    -Control Panel
    -System
    -Hardware
    -Device Manager
double click on -Sound, video and game controllers
    double click on -Video codecs
    click on the "properties" tab

There is no Sony Video codec installed!

    What video codec is it?
What video codec should I be using for capture if the end destination will DVD?

    Thanks for any insight

I believe that's Microsoft's name for the DV codec that's built into the OS. You just need to run it through an encoder like TMPGenc and then through an authoring program and burn it. Plenty of information in the guides to the left.

  4. hmmmm....so there is no way to tell which codec it is? Does it matter as far as quality goes or is it dependant on source material which codec is better?

If the goal is optimal quality for "home video"...sporting events etc.....would it be better to use MC dv codec or Huffyuv, or other?

If you are capturing from a DV camera the best codec will be DV, since at capture time you are already using it. This codec is useful for edition, but once you have completed editing your video, it's better to convert the file to DivX or to MPEG.
