A RPC1 DVD drive is a device that will play any DVD from any region.

The DVD driver in my PC is RPC2. This means that I have to choose a region for it. Currently it’s setup for Region 1 (US).

I live in Costa Rica (Region 4 – Latin America & Australia) and if I want to buy a movie with Spanish soundtrack (like the Simpsons first season) I will have to buy the Region 4 version.

Following with my example, since my DVD player is RPC2 and it is currently set to Region 1, it will refuse to play my Region 4 movie. Of course I can change the region to 4 but I can only switch it region for just 5 times. After that the drive will be locked in the last region I selected.

I have a few movies bought in Europe and they are Region 2. With them I also have the same problem.

An RPC1 drive will accept all regions and the software is the one defining the region. But for the software I have very good tools that will allow me to change the region easily

The good thing is that my External DVD burner is RPC1 and I do not have all the trouble
