  1. For a long time I've been trying to make subtitles permanent for my movies so that when I burn them to SVCD they'll have text. I've tried many different programs but it never works. Does anyone know a good program where the subtitles is build in to the film?

Btw. some of you blood-eating creatures out there might think that subtitles is only for loosers any that might acctually be the case but I'm not doing this for myself but for my parents any my little brother who aren't that good at english (I can now see your amazed faces out there but YES it's true: I DO think of other people)

It would help if you told us what tools and methods you have tried and why it doesn't work.
And what is your source? avi(xvid, divx), mpg, dvd, vob, svcd, vcd??

You can use either avisynth or VirtualDub with subtitler filter, and then frame serve to your encoder.

Have you tried DVD2SVCD (dvd2svcd.org) - this is a tool that automates it all for you (including permenant subs)

    Worth a look ....

Doh! - sorry that me not reading the last post .... You've tried DVD2SVCD ..

If the source is AVI - where are you getting the subs from - or are you attempting to put them in yourself ?

OK, I regularly use VirtualDub to add subtitles (.ssa) to AVI and frame serve to TMPGEnc that encodes to VCD or SVCD in a very stream lined process, so I'm sure there's no general problem with this method. What is your particular problem taking this route then? You can't just say "It doesn't work!" you know...

  11. I ask first, so I know what to post.

I used DVD2SVCD ones to convert commercial DVD to SVCD. In that try I was able to include subtitles too. I used (if I remember corectly) VCD type of subtitles. On DVD player I was able to disply them or not. So they were not permanent. They were optional. On/Off. THAT IS WHY I ASKED AND I DIDN"T EXPECT YOUR NOT RAELY POLITE ANSWER. Next time try to be more patient.

  13. Pedro seems to have some issues! Anyways if you want permanent titles the only way to do it is to make the text a graphic and edit it together with the movie. Otherwise just by the nature of subtitles you will have the option to turn them on or off.
