The Getaway seems more like an interactive movie than a game, but it was certainly entertaining. I like the gunplay but the car physics leave a lot to be desired. The chases would have been far more thrilling had the physics engine been more akin to even the NFS series. The voice-acting is superb and the story is pretty good as it's told from two sides. Graphics are pretty darn good and the mock-up of London (a small part of it at least) was kinda fun for someone who has only been there a dozen times or so. The free-roam mode at the end is fun for a short while finding the hidden cars and driving around town. I think it would be more interesting to someone planning a trip to London to get used to the streets and some of the landmarks.

Don't get it if you're expecting freedom of action like in GTA, each mission needs to be completed in a time frame and leaves little time for exploration of any sort until you get free-roam mode. There are very few weapons as well but all are a lot of fun to play with (especially butt-ending people with the shotgun).

Hey Devanshu, isn't Metroid Prime any good for the gamecube????

They're working on MP2 now and I think that game for the gamecube is right up there with Halo for the XBOX which I have and still think is great. I may even get the version for my PC b/c of the online multiplayer and other added features.

I gave it a rent back when it came out. Its not that difficult but still sort of fun. I wouldnt recommend buying it but if you think you can beat it if you rent, go for it. Most of the gamecube games out there, IMO suck. Metroid is an exception.

I wouldnt compare it to Halo...Halo rules all, followed by Splinter Cell(well, except for golden eye...best FPS ever). When did Halo come out for PC?? And online multiplayer you say...do I need broadband? Thanks for the info BTW.

Devanshu, Halo is scheduled to come out on the 30th of this month. You don't need a broadband connection. The people at Bungie have transferred the game itself straight from the console to the PC but have added 6 or 7 new multiplayer levels, more weapons, more vehicles, and have utilized DirectX 9.0 to produce better graphics than the original console version. They also have tested it on a variety of machines so it will run fine on even a slower machine.

The one thing that will be the deciding factor fo me is, will I be able to use the gamepad I have for my PC(it's identical to a PS controller)?

SWEET!! I loved the original but this one with more weapons and vehicles and online multiplayer...its gonna to kick ***. Do you know if it's headphone supported like madden and socom or do we communicate the old fashioned way? The only thing is...I'll have to wait a while before I can actually play it. I have a lot of school stuff to do(especially bio).

It's probably communicate the old fashioned way but I can't say for sure. I am probably going to wait a couple of months because I would rather pay $35 instead of $50 which is what games cost when they first are released.

Ditto. With all the expenses, I dont have an extra 50 bucks to spare right now. I'm actually gonna wait even longer. I'll probably buy from ebay or something. Halo is Halo, it'll never get old.

Agreed. Gaming is an expensive hobby! :cD

I am so lucky though! My husband is a Games Review Editor and as part of his job he has to bring home PS2 and PC games. So, not only do we get to play a lot for free, we also get to play loads before they are even released. :c))))

How's that for a Dream Job??!! :cD

Also, since he's in the industry and a heavy-duty gamer himself, he and all his workmates own tons and trade off with each other. :c) So, we don't usually have to buy much.

  18. Well, I know the feeling about playing a game before its released. I used to be able to watch movies before they were released while I was a manager of the movie theater a few years ago. The cinemas usually get the films a few days before its release date.

Also, I am lucky that a member of my family works for a very well known software creator. I can get their new releases at around $10 each.

Devanshu - he works for a magazine company. They do PC and PS2 mags. He's an editor on both. So we also get to see a lot of new hardware, gadgets, etc. before they're released. :c)

I was very fortunate that I got to test-drive lots of capture cards, etc., without having to buy them - or even leave the house! :cD

Plus... I also get to see DVDs before they go on sale!

    Heaven.

He doesn't perhaps work for Game Informer? I always wanted to get in with them. I'm not the biggest gamer having not owned a console until college but I'm an OK author and editor (trying to be modest here). I guess I needed to know how many levels there were in Metroid to be able to get in and I just don't have that gaming nerd quotient They're my favorite though since they're a local rag.

No, Rally. It's not that one. I can tell you they've hired people with and without game experience as writers. It just might make their job a bit tougher, if they don't have a gaming background.

He was asked to write an on-the-spot review of any game during the interview. He wrote about Deus Ex (practically a religion with him :cD) and they loved it.

But he does both gaming and PC-related work.

If you're looking to get in - check the small print spots on all the mag co.s zines, and their websites. They often advertise for positions as well as freelance work. :c)

Turns out she is like the uber geek of the porn world. One of her favorite activities is playing Unreal Tournament online.

EDIT: I just went browsing through my old issues, it was July 2002. And it was photoshop, not paintshop pro.
