mpg --> VCD Using Nero 6. HELP!

I captured a *.mpg file from my digital camcorder to my PC HDD. I am now trying to burn this to a VCD using Nero 6 so that I can play it on my DVD player.

I get an error message that tells me that the .mpg I am using is the wrong format and do I want to encode it into the correct format. When I tell it to encode the Software tells me to buy the DVD-Video plug in at www.nero.com.

BUT - on Nero's website it claims that Nero 6 has the plug in already.

Can someone tell me what is going on here? Do I need to buy the plug in if I have Nero 6 retail?

Well, are you sure you are making a vcd? that advertising only apears when you try to make a dvd with the trial version of nero. I have nero 6 and i dont have problems making vcd, or dvd. maybe you are trying to make a dvd with a mpg1 file, or a vcd with a mpg-2 file.

Dont use Nero for other things than actually writing stuff to a CD/DVD.
What you're doing, is letting Nero take care of authoring too.
Now, this plugin is afaik the mpeg2 encoder plugin, used when encoding to SVCD and DVD. The mpeg1 (VCD) plugin comes with "all" (at least 5.???.??.??) versions by default.
At least for VCD, Nero is first of all a lousy (low quality) mpeg1 encoder. To boot, not all players will play the final VCD due to some non standard authoring.
If you want to do a (S)VCD, the preferred method is to:
Encode with TMPGEnc if you don't have a mpeg of the correct specs for your intended format.
Author with VCDEasy, and create the cue/bin for the (S)VCD.
Use "any" CD writing app that knows how to burn a cue/bin (Nero is one of them, so is VCDEasy itself) to finally create the S)VCD.

Which format (mpeg1 or mpeg2) is your camcorder using? And what's the resolution? For VCD, you have to use mpeg1 and your resolution has to be 352x240(NTSC) or 352x288(PAL). My guess is your recording in mpeg2.
