  1. Just built a new computer and installed most of my old software to it, but no new software yet. (New machine is a P4 2.4Ghz, old machine was a P3 800Mhz.)
    Went to backup a DVD yesterday anticipating faster performance but IC7 freezes up instead. . . won't work. It starts reading the disk image and checking audio/video quality and then the preview screen goes black and the program halts action. Time till freeze up varies from 1 minute to 5 minutes. On screen progress % is always different, never in the same spot. What's up?
    I tried it on my old machine to see if there was a problem with the disk image and it worked fine. I have IC7 with the IC7.1 update. A couple of reg hacks applied (DVD magic & "ok" button always on). Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

  2. Do both machines have the same o.s. ?

    I had that problem with Windows 98 S.E. and Windows 2000, but it went ok when I upgrades to Win XP

    Sounds to me like a memory error.

    Either not having enough RAM or your video card can't handle it.

    I think there is a check box to eliminate the previewing of the DVD as you compress it in Instant Copy settings.

    No, it's because the software is simply crap. Throw it away and get something better, Really!

  5. Thanks for the replies.
    I am running Win XP on both machines. New machine has 1GB RAM in a dual RAM configuration (however that works?). Old machine had only 512MB. The new video card is 128MB I think. Old one was a 64MB. I will try the preview disable and see what happens.
    IC7 may be crap. But, it satisfied my needs and that was all I wanted (until now). If it worked on my old machine, I don't understand why it won't work on my newer/bigger/better/faster one.
    How does that old saying go, "if it wasn't broke . . .why did you mess with it?"

    I understand your situation, but seriously, Pinnacle products are known for their instability. They released over 210 fixes to Pinnacle Studio 8 and still never got it right. Now they aquired another crappy company Dazzle. Your machine looks great, but the software has problems with a number of these issues related to computer hardware and it shouldn't be this way.

    I had the same thing happen with IC 7 with updates using windows xp and a dell 8250. Contacted pinnacle and they tried several things but they did not work. Eventually I just stopped using it and now use dvd shrink and nero.

  8. tk25,
    Are you saying that you installed some Windows XP updates and then your IC7 stopped working? The reason I ask is that I am about to install the XP service pack 1. Will that further muck things up for me? I guess it does not really matter. . . it can't work less than it does now.
    I was just using DVDdecrypt and IC7. Two steps, very easy. If I never get IC7 working again, what program will work as easy in its place? (I've used Nero and don't really care for it, would like to use something else if possible.)
    Thanks

  10. FYI, disabled the screen preview while transcoding, via the reg hack and still had the same problem. Although, it did transcode for much longer this time before it froze up. Before it would only run for 1-5 minutes. This time it went for about 30 minutes. it actually created one .pdi file and about half of another one. Curious, but still frustrating.
    Also, I looked at the box and I have a Radeon 9200SE video card, 128MB, for whatever it's worth.

    I installed IC7 plus all the updates from pinnacle. Also install all security updates or critical updates for windows xp from microsoft but don't think those have anything to do with ic 7 not working. I tried reinstalling IC7 and updates too but to no avail. Even some copies that I was able to make intially with IC 7 seem to have some "bugs" and can't copy the copies. I only paid $20 for IC7 after rebates which I did get. Have not used IC 7 fora couple of months and it is nowhere near as good as dvd shrink. Its not worth any more time or worry to try getting IC 7 to work. DVD shrink does not have burning software so need to use something for that. If Nero does not work for you there are several other ones out there. Another option is to use dvd shrink to get it all one dvd-5 and then use dvd decrypter to burn.

  12. tk25,
    Thanks for all your input. I have downloaded shrink and will give it a try. I just got comfortable with IC7 and am lazy when it comes to learning new things.
    I am not a big fan of nero as I've had trouble with it in the past on some other things. On the shrink site they promote burnatonce, so I will try that if I have no luck with the shrink/decrypter combo.
    Thanks again.

    Now while I do agree with Jdizzy that Pinnacle Studio 8 is one huge POS. That they will never get to work right...that's why I only use it to capture and I use Premiere to edit and make videos. ANYWAY.........

    As far as your IC7 problem, I have never had any problems with mine.

    My settings are:

    DVDMagic = checked
    DVDHideConverstion picture = unchecked
    DVDalwaysenableOKbutton = checked
    DVDremovelayerbreak = checked
    Autosavelogfile = checked
    DVDautovideosize = unchecked
    Hidelegalwarning = checked
    Useinternet = checked

    ViewStatus = vsStandard

    DVDAnalyzeMaxRel = 10%
    DVDSaveQuality = 0%
    DVDAnalyseMinAbs = 40.0 MB

    My version of IC7 is 7.0.1.114 and I'm using settings editor 1.1.2

    I do have an off beat suggestion. Mike Shaw has a great website with tips to streamline your XP PC for working with video. The URL is - http://www.mikeshaw.co.uk/
    Not that those tips will fix your problem but have helped my 2.2 Ghz AMD tremendously as far as speed and reliability go.

    I do disagree with DVDshrink, I tried it, my quality was not even close to IC7. Tried it on 3 different DVD's. Although, I should add that I tried it when it was first released and haven't tried the newer versions...IC7 worked for me so I saw no reason to do anything different.
