  1. I live in the UK under the PAL system,
I have a NTSC VHS "The Wizard" which I NEED to get onto DVD. Ihave a VCR Player that can also play NTSC VHSs but when I try and output this signal onto my capture card or video walkman (in order to convert to MPEG and get onto DVD) I just get sound and a black screen. With a PAL VHS the output is fine.

I think my VCR cannot OUTPUT NTSC although it can play it. I REALLY REALLY need to get this film onto DVD (it wilL NEVER get released commercialy onto the format) so does anyone have any suggestions?

It's probably somewhere in your Video card settings. There has to be a setting that allows you to view either PAL or NTSC.

What exactly do you mean, "it can't output it, but it can play it"? How are you trying to capture? Via TV tuner, composite, S-Video? And how do you know it can play it, if it can't output it? How do you watch it on your TV, to know that your VCR can play it? More info needed...

Is there a menu option in the vcr setup for the output signal? I could be wrong but one would think that if it can play both pal and ntsc that it can output both type of signals also. If it's not a menu option it could be a small switch on the back of the unit.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

    p.s.

As was already said, your capture card should have a setting to accept either pal or ntsc if you use the tuner (cable) connector as input.

    I had the same problem.
I live in Spain and we have PAL system too.
I have a VHS player that can PLAYBACK NTSC tapes on a PAL TV, but it does NOT convert the output to NTSC.
What I did a few years ago is buy me a Samsung multisystem VCR that can really OUTPUT your VCR signal to NTSC, otherwise you'll always get a b/w signal on your capture card.
You can go to any video store to convert that tape to PAL, which is expensive (or send it to me).
