I'm looking for an inexpensive CDR that comes with VCD burning software. Or possibly an inexpensive CDR that works with a freeware VCD burning s/w package.

If burning 99min. CD-R's are important and having a very realible burner I would get the HP9150 - 8x4x32, I know its a little slower than the newer ones But I can burn anything withis burner without a problem.
Plus walmart has them for $90.
Walmart also has the HP9500 - 12x10x40 for $99, I got that one 1st and nothing but headaches with it, returned it for the 9150 and been smooth sailing ever since.
If you really have to have burning software then check the burners at Fry's, most usually come with NERO in it and you can get 8x or 12x now for under $100. -
Not True - I had a HP8200i and I could overburn without any coasters. The drive is still working great according to my sister whom I gave it to.

If I were going to buy a CDRW drive today, I'd go with a Lite On 24x model.
They get very good reviews, and if you look around enough you can find them for just a tad over $100.
If money were no object, I'd go with a Plextor.
As for software, Nero is the all-around king, but if you burn a lot of audio CDs, Feurio is fantastic. -
Sorry its a Hp8250i I think but I know now its not a HP8200i its just in the same series that could be why u cannot do it. Sorry for the error
