This is the process i followed to get two dvd movies onto one DVDr

can anyone tell me at what stage did i loose my subtitles

    1. Rip to harddrive using DVD Decrypter (All Files)
    2. DVD2AVI (Loaded VOB's of main movie then save project)
    3. TMPgenc to create D1 MPG's
    4. TMPgenc DVD Author

after writing down my steps i think its probably when i selected the movie only VOB's. does the subtitles live with the Movie Only VOB's or should i have selected other VOBs as well as the movie only ones.

    I selected VTS_03_1.VOB

I just did that. I was trying to find a faster way to make a MPEG
    from a vob.
MF2 -> import DVD saves an MPEG in it's temp area WITH subs
I didn't want that. Wrong stream format.

    Vobrator will

    Vobedit won't

I think the easiest way now is DVD shrink There is a guide.

you lost your subs at step 2

  3. The VOB files are MPEG2 files that contained multiplex elementary streams. These streams are m2v (video), ac3 (audio) and subtitles. DVD2AVI generated an audio and video file but NOT a subtitle file. Thats where you lost them.

Further if you did demux the subtitles TMPG DVD Author can not author them anyway. The only programs I know of that can author subtitles are: DVD Maestro, Scenarist, Reel DVD, Adobe Encore and IFOedit. Most poeple use IFOEdit (only freeware program on list).

They then load the VOB files in DVD Lab or TMPG and author from that. It's a less than ideal solution. My advise would be to rip either only the main movie VOB, use IFOEdit to generate the VIDEO_TS files. Run that through DVD Shrink (if needed). OR Author with IFOEdit for better quaility.

Great Info guys, thanks for that.

I tried it with DVD Shrink to start with and it worked fine but i needed a simple menu as well thats why im using TMPgenc DVD Author.

I have my simple menu and two movies so for now i'll have to put up with no subtitles.

IFOEdit is used alot so i may need to play with that abit.

    Thanks again
