  1. I just installed a new Digital Research DVD Rewriter optical drive. XP accepted it, I can even play DVD movies on it. BUT...none of my burning softwares;Nero,NTI,Pinnacle...will recognize the new drive, and consequently,I can't burn anything. Could use anything just to get me started.

  2. Well, I really don't understand why that would happen, but I guess it's possible. First of all, make sure your burning software is up to date and that you have reinstalled them since installing the writer. If nothing else works, you might install a version of ASPI (available at adaptec.com), but I doubt this would help.

Also, if you haven't done this yet, simply ask for help from the manufacturer's support department. Check their website or call them with the info on the box or in the manual. Usually if there is an incompatibility or problem between a certain product and another, the manfacturer will be aware of this and may have suggestions that will get you going.

Lastly, you should visit the manufacturer's website and check to see if there are any updated firmware packages you might be able to flash the writer with. I saved this for last because this is a last resort. I have had very capable friends ruin ther DVD writers by flashing the drive with an incorrect or corrupt firmware version, so keep this in mind.

    Good luck,

    Prospero

  3. ...well, updated everything as you mentioned, but still am at a lost why DVD+R media can never run in a simulated test burn, and never burned to a full 4.7 gig capacity as is advertised.
