  1. I have used both VCDimager and TSVC both created successfuly created me a VCD with chapters.
The problem I have is the VCD chapters and searching are independant of each other.

I can skip to the chapters of my choice fine.
    I can fast forward fine.

But if I skip to a chapter (chapter 3 for example), then press fast forward the movie jumps to the begining. Then the fast foward works from the beginning fine. But if I press next chapter it moves to chapter 4 even though I am watching chapter 1.

So the chapter searching and forward/rewind are independant of each other.

Has anyone managed to created a VCD with chapters and no menu that searches without this problem using either of the above software?

    If so, please help

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Curious problem...

I've used VCDImager for most of my VCDs and I create some pretty complicated PBC structures... I've never seen anything that you've described... and I don't know why it is happening either.

Searching should not automatically go back to the beginning no matter how it is authored. It would speculate that this is an idiosyncratic issue with your player.

How did you encode your MPEG? Does it have regular MPEG sequence headers?

  3. Thanks for your reply vitualis,

I am encoding using TMPGEnc and it does have regular MPEG sequence headers. If I do not skip or select a chapter the forward/rewind works as I would expect.

My player is the hollywood plus for the PC. I am going to try the VCD in a friends standalone player to eleminate my player.

I am using Win98 Second Edition and have the latest drivers for the hollywood plus card.

I will let you know the results,

    Thanks

The way entrypoints work on (S)VCD is actually a limitation of the format of VCD, which was improved upon in DVD. If you skip to an entrypoint in a video, then fast-forward past the next entrypoint without selecting it directly, your VCD player doesn't know it has passed another entrypoint -- so when you skip again, it skips forward from the last entrypoint directly selected. Annoying!

  5. Yes, this is annoying!

However, the original poster described how when you pressed FFW (Search) after skipping to another chapter, it went to the beginning of the track. This should definitely not occur no matter how the VCD is authored.

It would suggest to me that this is a problem with the player. I would be interested to know if the same problem occurred when chewbacca tested the disc on a stand-alone player.
