I have ripped a DVD (A very hard to get DVD to my hard disk!). I want to convert to mini DV format (That's right, lets be different!) so I can watch it on my big screen TV. I do not enjoy great movies on a tiny computer monitors. I can not copy it straight from the DVD player to Mini DV (Handy Camera) because of the copy protection problems. Does anybody know how to do it? Any links would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.

well, smartripper de-macrovisions the files for you, what other copy protection is there?

Well after you have ripped the DVD you can edit your video to 2 or 3 files (asuming you have windows 2000 and ntfs) using Type 1 DV codec to later send them back to yoy Mini DV camcorder. Each file would be 1 hr long so that it fits on your tape.
If you don't have W2K then you would have to make several 19 minute files and "print" them to your Mini DV tape (camcorder)
If you need more detail let me know.

Oh I forgot one more thing, after you have them on your Camcorder you can hook it up to your VCR and record it to VHS.
Then you lost a lot of quality (it still looks nice but not quite like a DVD), but at least you got it to a tape with out the Macrovision protection.

To the original poster:
I'm kind of curious to why you are doing this... Going from DVD to miniDV tapes is a very expensive way of backing up a DVD.

Hi All,
What files will smartripper with the de-macrovision option will create? AVI? MPG2?

Firstly, Smartripper doesn't "demacrovision" the video in any real sense. This is simply because the video data on a DVD doesn't have macrovision in it. The macrovision signal is generated by the DVD player itself if it detects a particular tag that means "include macrovision".
Smartripper simple removes that from the VOB file so if you wanted to create another DVD from it, THAT disc won't have macrovision.
Smartripper simple decrypts the CSS from the VOB files so its output format is VOB.
