The basic problem with this poll is that it's slanted towards contemporary sitcoms, whereas comedies that date back all the way to the 1950s (like I Love Lucy) aren't taken into consideration. Way too many comedies, far too little space to represent them all. A useless poll.

I thought about putting Police Squad. But I decided to try more "mainstream" shows for this poll. Plus the problem arises that I only get 10 options.

"Futurama" is what I'm into right now, but of the ones listed I think "The Simpsons" is probably my favorite. I think the American series I've enjoyed the most over the years is still "Married... with Children". I can relate to those characters, except that they had a better family relationship than I do.

Cheers. None of the other shows in that poll even comes close.

There was a time when every man in America wanted to be Sam Malone, unttil he removed his toupee and started dating Whoopi.

Absolute best line from Cheers ever...Frasier took his baby to the bar and Lilith comes in yelling at him saying her child will never learn to talk in a bar.

"You know who" walks in and the baby yells, "NORM!"

I think I put Seinfeld on my list of WORST shows. But to each their own.

    Try these:
    - I Love Lucy
    - The Dick Van Dyke Show
    - Mister Ed
    - Gomer Pyle, USMC
    - The Munsters

All pure funny, with little drama or morals. Back when comedy was good clean fun. I wasn't around when they were first shown, but thanks to the TVLAND (formerly NICK-AT-NITE) channel and syndicate re-runs, I can see them over and over again.

Animation that disgraces: Southpark and Family Guy. I guess it's funny, but not really. Lots of ho-hum moments. Futurama is a boring version of the Simpsons.

Frazier is consistently funny, much better than Cheers as it had lots of un-funny episodes, something that really plagued 80s comedy. Actually is plagued late 70s and early 90s shows as well. Roseanne, Family Matters, Taxi, The Fresh Prince, Gimme A Break, etc etc.... all shows I just assume forget and never show on tv again!

But in the end, THE SIMPSONS get my vote as #2,
right behind I LOVE LUCY as #1.

    Married With Children is #3.
King of the Hill gets #4, I tell you what!

Rupert Murdoch is my hero. Thanks for all the funny stuff, Mr. FOX!

Can we call GAME SHOWS comedy? Some of those are pretty entertaining, especially the ones from the 1950s.

    Okay, I'm done.

EDIT: No, looks like I forgot MWC! Yes, I should be whipped for my oversight!

  19. And you have to compare current shows that are still on the air (but have jumped the shark) vs those who had not "jumped the shark". And you have shows that are no longer on the air that did or did not jump the shark. For example For me friends season 1-5 were perfect, but the ones after were not as good and last season was pretty lame. Is question "It the shows Heyday" or "All around" or "Last your remember" may skew results.

The Drew Carey Show (Jumped the shark years ago)
8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter (still new enough)
    Scrubs (Still new enough)
Friends (Jumped the shark years ago)
Seinfeld (Jumped the shark at some point)
M.A.S.H. (Jumped the shark at some point)
The Simpsons (Jumped the shark years ago, but can't determine old episodes from new episodes so never know till after watch repeat)
Frasier (Jumped the shark years ago)
Family Guy (Enjoyed in first run, but did not enjoy it in reruns)
    Cendyne/Pioneer 105 & 104 with a Dazzle* Hollywood DV-Bridge.

Hey, I mentioned it. Though I included the ellipsis in the title. I think it's just about the only show I remember from the late 80s and early 90s that didn't decide it had to have a message about the evils of drugs or alcohol. They concentrated on bigger issues, like the evils of marriage and reproduction.

It's so nice that TV shows take the time to tell us all that we shouldn't drink or use drugs, we all know that people in the entertainment industry never do anything like that.

Whose Line is it Anyway with Drew Carey (british version is better though in some ways - not the host though)
Saturday Night Live (1st, 2nd, generation only)
    Simpsons (untill some season)
    dick van d. clasic stuff
MARRIED WITH CHILDREN (just to watch kelly - plus the spin off with the little tart from that show (had matt leblanc in it also) )
    soap
all in the family (was funny at the time, basicly because i could get much else on tv other than barney miller and sanford and son)

anyone remember "chico and the man" ?

MASH was not really a comedy pre say ... when they air it now with that laugh track added in i could puke (that was added later, alone with some edited scenes now)

i'm surprised no one mentioned three's company. sanford and son was also good. the simpsons was only good up to about 6-7 years ago. now its just crap. seems the writers care more about money than the quality of the show. family guy is great but far too short. seinfeld gets my vote. it was good til the end.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

  27. The Simpsons is the most brilliant comedy of all time. Easy choice. The show has everything. Cutting edge humor, satire, characters etc. etc. nothing comes CLOSE. Even the worst episode of The Simpsons is far and above most comedies best.

I vote for one NOT on the list ...

    SOUTH PARK

    - John "FulciLives" Coleman

    P.S.
I voted for SCRUBS since SOUTH PARK was not on the list.
